Well i think that the age consent should be raised only pertaining to certain criminal sexual conduct violations, but changing the consent law to 18 will not help decrease teen pregnancies because its not only teens getting pregnant by adults but teens getting pregnant by teens. If the teen is sexually active then there is a 50/50 chance that they are going to become pregnant. Besides 18 is not the good age to have children either. So i think 16 is the perfect age to have consentual sex with any one 16-up; because teen sex is going to exist, it was going on back in time so why should it be a big factor now.

Just because children have been and still will be having inconsequential sex, does not mean we can not still fight for what is right and best for them. They may not see it now but, there is a HUGE percent of people who agree that anyone under the age of 18 simply is not PREPARED for life. They all think they know what they want and need, but we have EXPERIENCED otherwise. We need to raise the age to 18 because it is our job and duty to honor God with our children, because they truly belong to him and believe it or not, he DOES love them more than us.

I don't think GOD should be the driving focus of any legislation. Age limits are arbitrary cutoffs that simply provide administrative convenience. Your BELIEFS and EXPERIENCES need not be pushed upon the next generation...what a self-important bunch of nonsense. I'm sure there are a great many 16 year-olds out there with a more mature world view than you, and who aren't beholden to a blind faith in centuries old superstition for guidance.

the mos important aspect of this bill is not that it raises the age of consent to eighteen although this is a good thing, but the fact that it adds an age gap to the law of five years. currently someone who is eighteen and has sex with someone only two plus years younger than them can be convicted, and spend the next 25 years of their life labelled as a pedophile. it is a waist of tax payers money and destroys many lives. the lack of this provision is probably why michigan has one of the highest rates of sex offfenders because

I may be 15 years old. People may say I may not know anything about love. But what I no is that I can't be with the man I love because he is almost 18 years old! We can't hold hands in public we can't kiss we can't do anything! Why is it when I was sexually assulted by my 25 year old cousin and i filled a police report they told me it was up to me to press charges but if I so much as kiss the man i love in public he will be sent to jail in a heart beat! Now tell me what is wrong with that!!!!

criminal is beloved here, the more heinous the criminal, the more he is loved. lowly criminals like sex abusers are simply treated as 'non-worthy trash'. it's how liberals do things. get used to it.

this law being passed will just add to the debt and frustration of michigan and its citizens. it is total waste of tax payers money by holding these "pedophiles" hostage in prison unnecessarily and ruining their lives especially when many have not harmed anyone. it isnt worth discussing if the "victim" hasnt complained. If their happy WHO CARES, if the family knows and doesn't mind it WHY SHOULD THE GOV'T WASTE TIME AND ENERGY when there are real rapists and murderers to catch and lock up!!?? raising the age will not slow teen pregnancy, stop the spread of stds and/or stop teens from having sex with anyone. what is the difference from one being 15 with a 19 yr old and one being 18 with a 22 yr old? nothing, the same 4 years difference, its not going to change. dont get me wrong i do believe that there should be an age boundary of some sort for adults and minors, e.g minor- 15 yrs old and over, adult- up to 5 yrs older, but to put away an n18 yr old over a 16/15 yr old is just RIDICULOUS. basically putting away a high school senior over a sophomore..

You know its sad when god plays a role in gov. i swear we fought for years for seperation between church and state. Age of consent is trash i agree 16 is a solid age cause kids are going to do what that want at that time like it or not. You CANT stop kids from having sex its not even viable and u cant punish a 18 year old kid for having a 17 year old girl/boy friend if ppl want to mess up thier lives so be it but for us to try to run it forever just makes ppl weaker because they dont have real life experience cause we took that from them.

I agree that there should be some grey areas, not everything is black and white. But to say there is no difference between a 15 yr. old and an 18 yr. old, is quite an understatement. Hopefully, there is a huge difference, both in maturity and intelligence. There is no problem with an 18 yr. old having sex with a 22 yr. old, but I feel there is a big problem with a 15 yr. old having sex with a 19 yr. old, those are some very important years of learning and growing, both physically and emotionally for the majority of people. I personally think there should be a two year cut-off for consentual sex for anybody under the age of 18. A 15 yr. old has no business having sex with anybody who is out of/ or should be out of high school, that is rediculous.
