    welcome to

rubber stamp legislature. they have nothing new to come up with, so they 'rubber stamp' previous legislation. it went nowhere before, it should go nowhere now.

does think it is a good piece of legislation and obviously it's someone with alittle more pull them you!!!

    thank god the

democrats are so intent on releasing inmates to solve a high cost per inmate problem. thank god the democrats are so willing to release convicted felons early. thank god the democrats are so UNWILLING to cut spending. thank god the democrats are SO UNWILLING to cut spending that they think that releasing inmates early will cure the problem of their overspending. remember, burglary is a NON-VIOLENT CRIME. car theft is a NON-VIOLENT CRIME. dealing drugs is a NON-VIOLENT CRIME. most sexual assaults are NON-VIOLENT CRIMES. how many of these criminals do YOU want moving back into your neighborhood?
  • 02-18-2007 6:01 AM In reply to

    whats it matter?

since their criminals why would anybody want them anywhere? So much for a "rehabilitation" program that can't force people to do the time for the crime where as on the other hand SOME people wouldn't give them a chance after they did. So why not let them go early, cutting spending in the end might help us buy a few more police to put them back behind bars so we can cut the officers and start the whole thing over again.

    some people

not giving anyone a chance after they have served their time all goes back to the TRUST issue. how can you trust someone who has done, by choice, exactly what it takes to go to prison for some length of years? how can you trust them when you KNOW that it's a better than 40% chance that they will re-offend SOON? even their own families don't TRUST them anymore. and they SHOULDN'T. i guess it's all part of that right wing buggaboo, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY. liberals hate when that has to be brought into the conversation.

    The Only

Red Herrings we find here are the bait you TROLL. Face it, Bud. Your game has been figured out and you've been busted as the TROLL you are.

    Troll

    On.
  • 02-18-2007 1:46 PM In reply to

    part of responsibility is

being AWARE OF THE CONSEQUENCES of your actions. what are the CONSEQUENCES of releasing prisoners? no one seems to believe that they will be ROBBING PETER, and we'll still have to PAY PAUL. reduce spending on programs that, while they make the average liberal citizen of michigan FEEL GOOD, they produce NO RESULTS. if all this inmate education initiative isn't producing PRODUCTIVE CITIZENS, then cut the spending for it. we are putting criminals INTO the system, and are still getting criminals OUT of the system, AFTER we have paid to educate them not ONCE, BUT TWICE. once by the school system, which didn't "stick" and once AGAIN, by the prison system, which isn't "sticking" either. if a man refuses to be educated, so be it. he is stupid, he should be TREATED AS SUCH. giving him a THIRD TRY after TWO REFUSED ATTEMPTS is futile, and cost prohibitive. STOP DOING IT.

Flaming again, we see. That's what you are all about, eh?
  • 02-19-2007 12:05 PM In reply to

    Some of these.....

inmates are not second and third time offenders do you know them all personally? The point is many are OVER their minimums which in the eyes of the law means that they are eligible for release anyways!!! You can put argument any way you want it but the fact remains that when you have inmates steadily going in and none coming out that spending will be out of control and no all this state money is not being spent on the inmate. When 40% of inmates are over their minimums they can be released which would alleviate some of the state spending. What people do not realize is that these good time bills only take 5 days off of every month that these inmates do not recieve any misconduct tickets, which if a inmate was to have no tickets for a year would only take 60 days off of their sentence.
  • 02-19-2007 12:15 PM In reply to

    and it would take

over two years off of a ten year sentence. that's what truth in sentencing was designed to avoid. the MAJORITY of the people support truth in sentencing, that's why the legislators VOTED FOR IT. i'm sorry if you find yourself in the minority.
  • 02-19-2007 12:16 PM In reply to

    do you feel flamed?

do you feel trolled over? maybe it's you who are the troll. (as in nasty little creature that lives under bridges.)
  • 02-19-2007 2:51 PM In reply to

    Hopefully you'll

find yourself in the majority soon and the state will find itself out of spending 400 million a year on inmates who are over their minimums and eligible for release!!!!
  • 02-19-2007 3:51 PM In reply to

    YOU are soon to be

The MINORITY. Things are a changing.
  • 02-19-2007 4:36 PM In reply to

    I'm no Troll

I'm more of the Troll Buster persuasion. Have had enough of your nasty games. There's nothing like exposing Trolls to help discussions in forums like this one become more civil and worthwhile. Trolls dry up when the sun shines on them and people quit taking the bait they drag. Have a nice day, Troll.
  • 02-19-2007 5:45 PM In reply to

    These bills are not .....

opening a flood gate of inmates coming out. They basically are just enforcing the minimums when the inmate has recieved no misconducts. 40% of inmates are in the eyes of the law over their eligible release date why if they have completed their required classes and have remained misconduct free should they not be able to go at their minimum?
  • 02-19-2007 7:07 PM In reply to

    read this

tis is not helping. true, there are some that belong in prison (i.e. rapists and some murders), but there is also alot that don't belong there. most people are in prison for non-violent, low level offenses. they are not a threat to anyone but themselves. they are mostly drug addicts and people that just made dumb decisions. they aren't people that wake up every day and plan out mastermind criminal plan after plan. anyone who supports tis has been misinformed and needs to do some more research on the subject. maybe then they'll see that it is all bullshit. now there will be some that say all that stuff about how tis preserves the integrity of the justice system and all that garbage that they've been brainwashed to believe through goverment propoganda. i say to you that any system that uses plea bargins (especially as much as the michigan justice system does) has no integrity. for instance: guy rapes a little girl. he is charged with 1st degree rape (witch, by definition, he did). however, since the court doesn't want to spend the money to take him to trial, they offer him a plea bargin. they say that, if he pleads guilty, they will drop the 1st degree down to a 3rd degree. now he pleads guilty to a 3rd rape charge (witch, by definition, doesn't even begin to descibe what he did) and, because he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge, his max will be lower and his sentencing guidelines (on the minimum) will go down. so, instead of serving 5 years-life (or something of that nature) on a 1st degree rape charge (witch he actually did) he gets 2 years-15 years (if that) on a 3rd degree rape charge. now, why don't YOU go tell that little girl, that he raped, that, because nobody wanted to spend the money to take this guy to trial he will get less time and never serve a day for the charge that he actually committed. however, due to tis, he'll do every day of that lesser charge. if that makes sence to you, fuck you. and, for information puposes, there are about 30 states that have tis. michigan is the only one that still has a parole board. figure that one out. if you don't belive me, check the CAPPS website. anyway, obviously, i don't support tis. by the way, i speak from experience. i did 3 1/2 years. i've seen it all first hand.

    you're an idiot

sexual assault is always violent. anything that involves another person, whether someone gets hurt or not, is considered violent
  • 02-19-2007 9:02 PM In reply to

    burglary

involves another person. robbery involves another person. so, by that definition, none of the inmates you mention should be getting out.
  • 02-19-2007 9:09 PM In reply to

    and your point is

well taken. you are against plea bargaining, but FOR releasing inmates early. by the way, as someone ELSE who has previous experience, that's not the way plea bargaining works. unless you are on a tv show. in the real world, pleas are offered when there is SOME GOOD that can come out of the bargain, never just to reduce one crime to a lesser crime. for example, if an armed robber fingers his accomplice, he gets a lesser sentence. or if a burglar 'pleads out' to every single burglary, the state offers a lesser sentence than if it has to go around and try to make every one stick individually. i don't believe in minumum terms for sentencing, i believe that a minimum of three years for 2nd degree murder is a joke.
  • 02-19-2007 9:10 PM In reply to

    no they're not.

they should do EVERY SINGLE DAY of their sentence.

  • 02-19-2007 9:18 PM In reply to

    alleviating one spending

problem while creating several more. how do you propose we PAY for the extra inmate monitoring that, by law, must go on with EACH AND EVERY ONE OF THESE EARLY RELEASES? our probation and parole departments cannot handle the load they have now, much less the huge load of extra work you plan on dropping onto their desks. what are you going to tax to get that job done?
