    Dower Rights

The entire idea of Dower's Rights has to be changed. The law is old and no longer needed in the 21st Century.

    Dower

Dower Rights are not only not needed. They create alot of problems for men. they give rights to women that men do not have and control to women in an otherwise unfair way. In other words woman have right to nake Real Estate transaction without their husbands consent. However men can't. This is just stupid.

    End Dower

I have to agree. The women in these situations basically get to steal from men when men owned their property many years prior to marriage. This seems to be a very sexist law and if it was the other way around, the women would be screaming for a change.

    A potentially poor investment.

And Women in Michigan have to wonder why A man would fear a marrige commitment???? Hearts change, minds change and situations change. The way the laws work in Michigan now, a middle aged man who has worked most of his adult life and owns his home before the woman came in to his life could very well end up working for the rest of his life to replace the home or equity in the home if she one day just up and decides to call it "quits" for what ever reason. This to me is a bad investment. No person in their right mind would ever go into a business arrangement of any kind with the odds stacked so in favor of the other business party. So why is a man expected to do so especially since women have as much access to education and as much earning potential as any man now??? Can anyone explain to me how this promotes or encourages a family to come together under one roof? As a 38 year old single male and Real Estate professional with an 8 year old daughter this seems like a very poor move for my financial future or that of my daughter.

    What about women....

I purchased my home prior to my current marriage. I have now filed for divorce and have read and spouse has been told, he has rights to my home or a portion thereof. How fair is this??

    Re: Fair

It is completely fair. He is entitled to the increase in equity in the house during the marriage. Would you be complaining that it wasn't fair if the situation were reversed and he was the owner of the home? Would you think it was fair for you to walk away with nothing while he got everything?

    Re: Fair

Hey we need to end the michigan dower act the michigan courts has abuse the system and are bias towards men and I do have the proof for that. I just terminated a judge for being bias (prejudice) in isabella county. And child support needs to be reform to 10% on a man income to many women are abusing the dowery act and child support. And the courts are bias against gender.

its unconstitutional to make people pay child support and take away driver licenses, contract license, business licenses. but yet the state wants you to pay child support that does not even make sense. But tyranny of a government that can not even provide a jobs for the people of michigan. What we have here is a deadbeat state whose causes dead beat dads.

what we need is flat taxes of 10% for michigan in business, income, property, sales, use, and stop the out sourcing job out the country and put welfare people to work as state employee and stop the excuses of that it discrimination
