    Duty to retreat

This just codifies the traditional common law approach that a citizen can use deadly force on his own land or property. Believe it or not, there are cases where a burgler was shot and crippled by a homeowner. Burgler's have sued the homeowner and won. Now the homeowner (insurance company) has to pay the burgler!

    It's past time.

I've never understood the premise behind why someone should have to run in the first place before using force to defend themselves, irregardless of where they're at. This is common sense legislation that should be fast tracked out of committee, approved by the legislature, and signed into law.

    Anywhere

The law should be rewritten to state that you do not have a duty to retreat from ANYWHERE you have a legal right to be. Several states are applying such a law and it is sometimes called it a "Make my day law". Please do the same here.

    how about...

amending the state constitution and taking out the nonsense that sez that an honest, law abiding citizen of the great state of michigan has to retreat from an evil doer in the first place???

michigan constitution,  article 1. Sec. 6.

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

     keep your powder dry.
