    Straw Purchases

Is this not already a Federal Law. I though the STRAW PURCHASE concept was thoroughly covered in the Brady Bill. Why do we have to duplicate the concept in Michigan Laws. This just appears to be a waste of legislative time.

I see no need for this bill. The acts it prohibits are already illegal -- it just restates current law. Surely Rep. Lemmons has better things to do.

    Not needed

It is difficult to see how this additional law is needed. With the required instant NICS check, a dealer will be given approval or denial of a sale. Private sellers already are required to report sales of pistols, and they should know that sale to a felon or a minor is illegal. We already have two many laws. Criminals won't obey this new law, or any other.

    How can you define "intent"

"purchasing or attempting to purchase firearm with intent to furnish" "intent to furnish" is very very vague at best. Could you be purchasing a gun for a minor with the intent to furnish on the minor's birthday when he/she comes of age? the way the proposed legislation sounds, this would be illegal and punishable. Any criminal with any sense doesn't go into a gun store with the "strawman". He/she has the strawman purchase the weapon by themselves. It would be better to propose that gun stores have a sign stating that purchasing a gun for someone who can't legally own one is a crime. This law isn't going to help anything but the senator's voting record.

    Vague indeed!

I would like to think that this guy isn't looking to criminalize buying your kid their first firearm, but then again he is from WaCo. Heavens, if that's the case I would be in deep stuff. I got a whole gunsafe full that my kids, especially my son is welcome to use {under adult supervision}. Most will eventually be his, some at 18, some at 21, and some when I kick the bucket.

    Imbecile!

Why are you passing all these laws and then having the feds do the prosecuting? Seems to me since they are doing the prosecuting we should be able to save Mi. tax dollars by cutting the prosecutors budgets respectively. Your city (Detroit) can't even put ccw's in the good peoples hands is the allocated time frame, why don't you work on that? This ignorance you propose, is already a FEDERAL LAW. Why don't you quit screwing the taxpayers and resign? I FEEL I'M BEING ROBBED BY PAYING FOR THE (DIS)SERVICE YOU PERFORM AS A LEGISLATOR. How about some competency testing before holding office? In this day and age we need intellectuals not dimwits, programmed by the million mom march!

    criminals...

in my seven years in law enforcement, i have NEVER come across a criminal who purchased a gun at a gun shop, gun show, or pawn shop... they ALL STOLE THEM, or got them from somebody else who STOLE THEM. stealing guns is already a crime... ENFORCE THE LAW.
