    Common sense

I borrow my wife's car all the time. As long as I have her registration and insurance info, I'm good. This should be no different. This bill is a no-brainer, and I can't think of a single reason not to adopt it. In fact, why can't any CPL licensee loan his / her pistol to another legally licensed individual?

    Sensible, logical, and fair!

It's high time that lawmakers, as a whole, got their head out of the sand and passed this legislation. This bill is one of the few that I've seen introduced recently that is practical. Not only is it logically sensible, it's fair and just. Too bad the majority of the legislature cannot see the forest through the trees.

    Absolutely

Now my wife can bring my weapon right to me at my place of work (Post Office) so I can do my job. :) Of course, she's never taken any training on proper carrying of the weapon. Nor does she even know what a safety is. In fact, come to think of it, I'm sure she doesn't even know the rules of the Conceal Weapons Law, so don't hold her or I to blame if she inadvertantly throws it in her purse when she heads to our son's Parent/Teacher conference.

    Why?

As written this doesn't change existing law. Why is this here?
  • 06-24-2005 5:43 PM In reply to

It is only common sense …

…that husband and wife both be legally entitled to have full use of community property.
  • 09-09-2005 4:06 PM In reply to

    improvement?

Yes it's an improvement over existing law or at least the interpretation of existing law, however, it still allows for the illegal registration of firearms. Every person has the right in Michigan to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the State. Why should this right be restricted by concealed carry laws anyway?
  • 02-23-2006 9:15 AM In reply to

    Did you read the bill?

If you had read the bill before you commented, you would have seen that the person must have a CCW permit. Getting the permit requires training in firearms and includes training where the firearms are not allowed. You are probably the one that does not know what a safety is or have any training or knowledge of the laws. If your wife is stupid enough to throw the gun in her purse etc. when she knows nothing about it, or you're stupid enough to leave it laying around where your stupid wife has access to it, then you are too ignorant to read the laws or obey them as they are written. Don't penalize everyone else because of your families ignorance.

    Amen

My wife took my truck and my gun was in the glove box. Mistake? Yes. Felony? 2 year mandatory sentence in Michigan? I bet in Vermont she would not have been braking any laws.
  • 02-24-2006 8:05 AM In reply to

If you had read the bill

It says spouse not wife. It's also "family's" ignorance not "families" ignorance. If a man without a CPL takes his wife's car to gas it up and she has her gun in the glovebox he is braking the law. If he has a CPL he is braking the law as it it written today. With mandatory sentencing laws regarding firearms, this could be rather serious.

    are you following the thread

I was referring to daycare statement in the thread. And it's "breaking"-not "braking".
  • 02-24-2006 8:19 AM In reply to

    Same question

As far as I am aware, we are allowed to carry a spouses pistol without this law-whats the deal?
  • 03-15-2006 12:04 PM In reply to

    Not 2 year felony

I agree with the law and have had situation where I left my gun in the car at home and non-CPL wife drove my car. Carrying a concealed weapon is a five year probationable felony. The 2 year felony that you speak of is for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, (i.e. robbery or drug possession) which carries a two-year mandatory prison sentence - no probation, no parole (the underlying felony CANNOT be carrying a concealed weapon).

fun's over... so... if my "spouse" is carrying my weapon, and both of us have cpl's... and according to current law, this is illegal... isn't it time we changed the basic law to make it legal? a concealed weapon permit should allow the permit holder to carry and conceal ANY weapon. the average citizen should be able to have ANY weapon ANYWHERE as long as it is NOT concealed. i understand that this is far from what the nannies want for us poor unfortunate sheeple... but...

    Just to let you know

in michigan, we don't have concealed weapons licenses. We have a CPL or concealed pistol license. The license is only good for handguns. Don't try to carry any other concealed weapon with it or you are breaking the law. I know it's stupid, but it's the way it is for now.
  • 06-01-2006 12:35 AM In reply to

    I disagree

the constitutions didn't give me my rights. They guarantee the governments won't infringe on my god given rights. I was born with the right to defend myself :-) The government is NOT supposed to be able to take that right from me.
  • 06-01-2006 12:37 AM In reply to

    at least...

at least we agree that it's STOOOOOOPID...... thanks for the clarification. where i come from, it covers ANY weapon, and it's an old habit that's hard to break. i don't see the logic in having permits to purchase, inspections, registration, etc. except to give the county a hobby and a steady stream of income from the shooting public. if they don't trust us, why don't they just say that up front?

    I'm in total agreement

with you on those points. I believe the 2nd amendment when it says "shall not be infringed". :-)
  • 06-01-2006 12:42 AM In reply to

    your rights...

your right to defend yourself has been reduced to carrying a charged up cell phone to dial 9-1-1 and hoping the response time is short. pity the fool who uses any type of force to defend himself, for the wrath of the nannies will decend upon all you filthy gun bearers full score... that's not quite "word for word", but it's certainly the impression i'm getting around here.

If you want to know the truth

Most of the nations gun control laws were racist in their origins. They were established to keep the newly freed slaves unarmed and under control. I in no way think that this was right back then, and it's still not right today. It is what it is today though, and all we can do (short of revolution) is to work within the system to correct it.

    Michigan's not that bad.

Some other states definitely have it worse. I'm just glad that some of our legislators finally get it, and are coming up with bills to reverse the crap laws on the books.

    the system...

"the system" sez that we CAN have a revolution... we can "overthrow" the current government every few years... they're called elections. maybe the nannies need to feel the wrath of the PEOPLE and not the SHEEPLE... to paraphrase the "disgruntled townsfolk" of yesteryear... "unemployment's too good for 'em."
