    Well, it's about TIME

Finally, we're getting rid of the many different county gun boards, more than a few of which the county prosecutors quit when Michigan went to shall issue. I hope that with a more centralized system, we won't see the delays we've been seeing in some counties like Wayne. And also an end to the many different add ons that some counties put like requiring written letters of reference. Al Lowe Coordinator, Michigan Pink Pistols

    Excellent idea

With the highest respect for our State Police, I also support CPL issuance and renewall by the equally respected Secretary of State - In my opinion of course! Whatever can be done to minimize "power" over the common citizen, as it seems to be more prevalent in smaller juristrictions, the better. Lets have our law inforcement solve crimes, instead of makeing live miserable for the citizen choosing to live a better safer life.

    We need this bill

The Michigan Coalition for Responsible Gun Owners has spent tens of thousands of dollars in pursuing successful lawsuits against cities and counties that have decided to write their own versions of concealed carry reform law. Having SOS issue of CPLs should immediately end this so that MCRGO can devote its efforts and funds to other aspects of promoting firearms rights in Michigan. Having said that, I have a number of minor concerns about this bill which I have sent to Senator McManus. I hope that serious efforts are made to bring this bill in line with the reasons for our support in the first place. A simple example can be seen on lines 15 and 16 of page 10 of the pdf version of SB 375, where a passport quality photograph is required. Because the SOS is fully equipped to take and store photographs for drivers' licenses, the efficient step would be to have the SOS take the photograph instead of having each CPL applicant spend $10-15 for a photograph. I hope that the Senate Government Operations Committee will seriously consider these modest changes in the bill. I know that Secretary Land is in favor of assuming responsibility for issuing CPLs, so we should give her the best possible bill.

    Unless

True, unless we get a Wayne county type anti-CCW SOS. Then no one in any county will be able to get a permit.

    sos...

i think having the secretary of state handle the mundane day to day work of supplying concealed carry permits is a good idea... anything that LOWERS the cost of obtaining a permit so that the average citizen can afford one is okay by me... one question... why is it that I can drive a car for a year with minimal 'no fault' insurance, but i must get a special type of insurance if i carry a gun? i'm much more likely to get into a fender bender than i am to use deadly force...

So what happened to this one?

It says it was referred to the commitee on the judiciary. Why's it just sitting there?
