2005 Senate Bill 162 (Authorize “redevelopment project area liquor licenses” )

Introduced in the Senate on February 3, 2005, to authorize the issuance of “redevelopment project area liquor licenses” over and above a particular city’s liquor license quota if the city meets certain redevelopment capital investment thresholds. The license fee would be $20,000 (which is less that what it costs in many places to purchase a license from a current licensee, given the quota system)

The vote was 36 in favor, 0 opposed and 2 not voting

(Senate Roll Call 725 at Senate Journal 87)

    R U NUts

Shouldn't this be a local issue? Is the state so hard up for redevelopment to "sell" more area liquor licenses?

    Abolish liquor licenses

Why license the sale of liquor at all? We don't require licenses to sell fertilizer that could be used in terrorist attack, so why bother licensing sale of liquor. Leave it up to each merchant--sell or don't, at whatever price you set. This is just another tax opportunity.

    every time somebody says

"gimme a beer" the state makes money. i would think that the state would (since they are in the business of making money off of the sale of alcohol) would be promoting that business as hard as they could.
