    re: 5989

Since fingerprints are forever, this is a big step towards reducing the work load of our already overloaded police network. It should be suffice to just run an update check on the LEIN and/or NICS network. Notarized character reference letters should also be eliminated. Also, the renewal date should be a continuance of the expiration date and not treated as a new issue with a new issue date! Driver's licenses aren't treated as such!!! Let's get ALL counties in Michigan on the same page. I think we've already proven that CCW holders are not the threat we were labeled to be. In fact, we're probably more honest and law abiding than your average citizen. We're certainly more aware and strive harder to stay within the confines of the law as the CPL is too dear to lose.

    Why stop there?

It's already been shown that CCW holders aren't the public menace that the anti's have attempted to make us out to be. Let's instead go to Vermont-Style, and free up our law enforcement to go after some real criminals instead of the "make-believe" ones.

    Good Stuff!

I'm encouraged to see these continuous improvements to our CCW laws. Let's all call & write our legislators to show our support!

    Permit Expiration

I just renewed my CPL and the two month period I had until the expiration of my old permit is gone now! Funny how Jenny seems to get our money in these "insignificant" ways, ain't it?? Let's contact our legislators and include an expiration system as we have on our MI drivers' licenses -- using our birthdate.

    CCW & SOS

Let's combine this with SB891. Let's clean up this CCW mess and give our LEO's a break. Relieve their agenda of all the unnecessary tasks, freeing them up to do more important work for which they are desparately needed.

I believe that fingerprinting should be done away with for all CPL (CCW) renewals. I also am a strong believer that CPL (CCW) renewals should be put in the hands of the Secretary Of State.

    Good Bill

Glad to see this succeed. Now maybe the people in Wayne County and other deliberately "slow" counties will be able to protect themselves the way us "privileged" folks in Oakland County do. Personally, I don't understand why Wayne County continues to be allowed to circumvent the law. It isn't its own state but no one seems interested in forcing the County to comply with State Law on Concealed Carry issues.

    Stripped is right!

What happened to eliminating fingerprinting for renewals? This is a sell out. I'm losing faith fast in the people that are suppose to be representing me. This bill did nothing. The laws were there already to force counties to issue in a timely manner. They weren't enforced. So what do lawmakers do? Make another useless, unenforcible law. I'm disgusted!!! This law will never be enforced either. The county gun boards will just laugh in our face. You've accomplished nothing and let down all the CCW carriers in the state. Another step backwards.

    Changing fingerprints

I am stunned. Why require new fingerprints for CPL renewals? Do fingerprints somehow CHANGE over the course of half a decade? What possible reason could there be? Doesn't the state want to POCKET the extra cash instead of spending it on fingerprinting licensees who already have prints on file? This is beyond annoying; it's fiscally irresponsible!
