Certainly Maroun is trying to build his own bridge vs. the multi-billion dollar project down river. However, the argument that the DRIC project would benefit "hundreds of thousands of citizens" is questionable. The project would certainly benefit thousands of union construction workers and their companies. It would also place additional hardship on hundreds of thousands of taxpayers, many of whom would get absolutely no benefit from the bridge.

The insurance companies want no part of allowing people to ride without helmets. They fought this legislation tooth and nail.

This legislation does not force consumers to buy insurance, it forces insurance companies to expand coverage on a certain type of policy. The effect of this legislation will be to increase the price of GAP insurance, thus causing fewer people to purchase it, thus causing insurance companies to sell less and make less profit and causing finance companies to incur greater risks. As usual, the consumer loses. It doesn't matter whether it's Republicans or Democrats. They all want to take away our rights.

This bill illuminates the Republican lie that they want government out of our lives. What they really want is government working with business to lessen risk and increase profits to those businesses. Rational people see the connection between big government and big business.

In Michigan, it's the other way around, Isabell. BUSINESS tells the government how to legislate in exchange for the dollars they shove in their re-election pockets - and government is happy to oblige, in spite of how it affects the citizens. Especially with billionaires, insurance companies, and banks, it's a cozy quid-quo-pro arrangement. Take note of the following:

It's got nothing to do with safety or rights or government leaving us alone; It's about selling insurance. I mean, I've got UNLIMITED no-fault coverage, yet I have to wear a seatbelt in spite of the lack of empirical data indicating it's a benefit to wear one.

This Death/Disability Insurance on Auto Loans: The losses sufferred by financial institutions for this reason are miniscule. With this legislation, the borrower (you and I) pay more, the bank's risk is eliminated, and insurance companies sell more insurance. As a bonus, it doesn't apply to businesses that purchase vehicles, only "people".

It's these types of mandates and carve outs that drive up prices for everyone. Also, it is not good when the government tells businesses how to run their business.

It sure would be nice if I could eliminate all risk in my life also, where will this slippery slope lead us? Paying to insure I'll put gas in the car?

I thought the republicans didn't like it when government forces citizens to pay for insurance coverage they don't need or want. Isn't that the big fuss with the national healthcare legislation? Am I wrong?? Do they not know what they stand for (or against)???

Oh, I get it . . . protecting the Wall Street Bankers from losing on a car loan is WAY more important than looking out for the guy that's trying to get the loan.

Let's see how this plays out at election time.
