it seems that the job of our government is to run general motors. our president said today "let me make it clear. we have no intention of running GM." this is only days after the government bought the majority of voting stock and fired the c.e.o.

it also seem that the job of government is to run the banking system.

it has been quite a while, and no one from the liberal wing of either political party has posted what they think the job of government is. does anyone here believe that it is the job of government to take the next ten trillion dollars that the nations businesses make, and that the citizens earn?

legislators take a solemn oath to uphold and defend the constitution. they are daily violating that oath. without those violations, the supreme court would be superfluous.

If the laws the legislature force on us, as you say, are unconstitutional, they can be challeged in court, the Supreme Court if needed, and defeated.

no, we are back to the legislature, who foists unconstitutional laws upon us constantly. as i said, the court would have scarce little to do if the legislature would not write bad law.

We are back to the Supreme Court. According to the constitution, they decide whether laws made by legislators are constitutional or not.

it isn't the constitution that takes away rights, it's the legislature. they have done so numerous times.

The constitution has been amended 27 times since it's inception. Only one of those amendments took away rights, and that one has since been repealed.

This is what the Congress has the power to do. There are two other branches of government described in the constitution.

this is what the united states constitution says the job of government is.

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization, and uniform Laws on the subject of Bankruptcies throughout the United States;

To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin, and fix the Standard of Weights and Measures;

To provide for the Punishment of counterfeiting the Securities and current Coin of the United States;

To establish Post Offices and Post Roads;

To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries;

To constitute Tribunals inferior to the supreme Court;

To define and punish Piracies and Felonies committed on the high Seas, and Offenses against the Law of Nations;

To declare War, grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;

To raise and support Armies, but no Appropriation of Money to that Use shall be for a longer Term than two Years;

To provide and maintain a Navy;

To make Rules for the Government and Regulation of the land and naval Forces;

To provide for calling forth the Militia to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining the Militia, and for governing such Part of them as may be employed in the Service of the United States, reserving to the States respectively, the Appointment of the Officers, and the Authority of training the Militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;

To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of the Government of the United States, and to exercise like Authority over all Places purchased by the Consent of the Legislature of the State in which the Same shall be, for the Erection of Forts, Magazines, Arsenals, dock-Yards, and other needful Buildings; And

To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department or Officer thereof.

i told you that i sat on the sidelines, but no more. besides, the election has nothing to do with it. holding representative's feet to the fire from both parties is a big part of the plan. besides, you should talk about being selfish, trying to deprive smoker's and businesspeople's rights just so you can be comfortable while you drink.

You didn't fight hard enough before the last election. Either that or the majority of the people realized it's time we quit being selfish and start making this country work again, for the good of all of us.

if a person must destroy rights to protect rights, what rights are safe from that person? i would say none. there is no right that is too sacred not to be sacrificed for 'the common good'. we can only await now to see the type and kind of tyrant making the decisions.

i've stood by the sidelines long enough. my rights are too important to let you throw them away. it's time for action. i promise to fight harder to protect my rights and the rights of other citizens than you will fight to take them away.
