For a very long time I have been hearing about a "Liberal Agenda".
I think it is worth examining, as it rolls off the rightwingers
tongues with a loathing and easy contempt.

What is it ??
If, by "liberal agenda" they mean....

Keeping Social Security viable for those most in need in our
society and those who have already worked a lifetime
contributing to a system geared to regular folks.
Something the "right" wants to "privatize",in other
words eliminate.

To insure Government regulation of
"for profit" companies so we don't have rampant corporate
theft and massive exploitation of hard working Americans.

(Ie. the current conservative/republican caused economic collapse)

To insure Government regulation of the food industry.
So people wont have to test their own ground beef for
mad cow or Ecoli.

To insure Government regulation of
imported goods.So YOU don't have to test for dangerous
lead content.

Government regulation is government doing
its job!

To ensure that those who have the ability to go
on to higher education do so.

To insure Universal health care for all Citizens.I

If we can afford a war we can afford health
care for all Americans.

When our government tells us that
"Universal Health care for Iraqi's is sound policy, but for
Americans its SOCIALISM, its time for a new government.

If every individual is "entitled" an attorney, whether
or not he/she can afford one, than I believe by virtue of
citizentry alone, EVERY American is "ENTITLED" to
Universal health care.

Insurance companies "compassion" for
my illness should not end where their PROFIT/LOSS margins begin.

If my health determines your profit and my illness decides
your loses,than you would want me either... healthy or dead.
That's NOT a very good system for health care.

To insure our nation never invades, attacks or aggrieves any
Sovereign nation(s) that commit no provocation or threat.
Such as Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Iraq.

To insure "equal protection under the law"For all people.
Not just some people but all people.Not just some rights
but all rights.If you fall into the category of Human Being,
you are "entitled" to the same rights as all other

Anyone who would insinuate that taxing someone $3 million on an income of $10 million a year, is being "punished" for their hard work is among the worlds biggest lunatics.

#1 anyone who "makes" $10 million a year is NOT digging
ditches or working hard. (He may have done so to get there
but lets be clear, once he gets there he is NOT working hard.)

Hard work is many things, it is also hard work to be really
poor with no job. Ask a welfare recipient if its not hard
work trying to make ends meet? Try to figure out how to
pay $1660 worth of expenses on $1100 a month. Gas or electric?
Telephone or cable?Clothes or rent? Food or medicine?
Can't imagine? No, neither can I !

#2 It is NOT punishment to pay your fair share!!

I was told once that people are afraid of the big UNIONS like the MEA (Michigan Education Association) I was even told by an employee of the MEA, a Uni-serve director that people are afraid of people like them meaning; the Uniserve persons . I didn't believe it when I heard it , but now I do. I have been exposed to thier corrupt ways. The MEA is one of the most powerful Unions there is, doing wrong by those who pay into their system and getting away with it. I never knew how much power the Principles Association had either, and/or all the things they control. This system is like an evil giant that continues to grow and gain more power each step it takes. The NEA Today (Their propaganda magizine) is a powerful hipnotic tool used to control the minds and voices of all who read it. The teachers are like "sheeple" who follow the lead sheppard who is really a wolf in sheep's clothing. None of them have a mind of their own. They are told when, where, and how to think, sit, stand, talk, and yes, even told how to vote. This magizine even tells them how to manipulate things to get their way.Robots, each and every one of them. Controlled to keep their jobs and controlled to agree with everything the Administration or Union requests of them, even if it is immoral, unethical, and /or against their own protection, their "contract." It saddens me that the people who have the power to stop this do nothing...including yes, the Macinac Center.

The Mackinac Center has requested emails of a professor who wrote a critical article about Gov. Walker's attempt to strip public employees in Wisconsin of their collective bargaining rights, including emails that mention Racheal Maddow, the liberal talk show host who recently did a segment on her show critical of Gov. Snyder's anti-labor bent. Is this a legitimate concern for legal issues, or pure indimidation? Is the Mackinac center a tool of the radical right? My opinion is a resounding yes.

it's a simple question, but it is at the root of so many of our debates on this thread, because it is at the root of so many pieces of legislation in this state.

the debate over abortion is, at it's root, whether or not the mother has the freedom to choose whether or not to kill the person growing inside of her. in which case, the freedom of choice is whether or not to commit murder.

the debate over smoking bans is, at the root, about whether or not a citizen has the right to choose to do something that others feel is bad for him.

the debate over motorcycle helmets is, at the root, basically the same question, whether a citizen has the right to choose what is not necessarily the best option in other people's eyes.

this takes the 'surface debate' away and gets to the root of the question.

i'm interested to hear your opinions.

why do democrats want to be responsible for your health and safety?

given a choice, a democrat will always ASSUME that it's up to the government to protect you from harm (from criminals, for example) by having you finance a large police department.

they will also, if given a chance, try to get you to buy into UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE.

what is it about being a democrat that causes such stirrings in otherwise intelligent people's hearts?

what causes them to feel that they must solve the "problem" of people being unsafe by hiring "protection" with our money?

why do they feel that the government would provide a better healthcare system than the one we have now?

i'm interested to hear the reasons they think that way.

(A great little story, worth the repost)

A Day in the Life of Joe Republican

Joe gets up at 6am and fills his coffeepot with water to prepare his morning coffee. The water is clean and good because some tree-hugging liberal fought for minimum water-quality standards.

With his first swallow of water, he takes his daily medication. His medications are safe to take because some stupid commie liberal fought to ensure their safety and they work as advertised.

All but $10 of his medications is paid by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance - now Joe gets it too.

He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some girly-man liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

In the morning shower, Joe reaches for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with each ingredient and its amount in the total contents because some crybaby liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how much it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is clean because some environmentalist wacko liberal fought for the laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks on the government-provided sidewalk to subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work. It saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees because some fancy-pants liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his workday. He has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some lazy liberal union member fought and died for these working standards. Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union.

If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed, he'll get workers compensation check because some stupid liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of a temporary misfortune.

It is noontime and Joe needs to make a bank deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FDIC because some godless liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the Great Depression.

Joe has to pay Fannie Mae-underwritten mortgage and his below-market federal student loan because some elitist liberal decided that Joe and the country would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his lifetime.

Joe forgets that in addition to his federally subsidized student loan, he attended a state funded university.

Joe is home from work. He plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive. His car is among the safest in the world because some America-hating liberal fought for car safety standards to go along with the taxpayer funded roads. (Not private toll roads)

He arrives at his boyhood home. His was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers' Home Administration because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

He is happy to see his father, who is now retired. His father lives on Social Security and a union pension because some wine-drinking cheese eating liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

Joe gets back in his car for the ride home, and turns on a radio talk show. The radio host keeps saying that the liberals are bad and conservatives are good.

He doesn't mention that the beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day and takes for granted today.

Joe agrees: We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives! After all, I'm a self-made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have.
