Perhaps, where this is misleading could be the idea that not as much money is returned to us, the people of the state (State taxes), and the people of the U.S.A.(Federal taxes).

Don't forget the Bureaucracy must be funded

I respectfully disagree. How is it that taxes are not stolen from us? That is exactly what is happening.

A man asks me for money to help the poor (maybe it's true, and maybe it's for him. I don't know). I say it's my money and I refuse. He and his gang of 534 friends tell me I better give them the money, or they threaten me with bodily harm. I still refuse. They use force to take what is mine. If I continue to resist, he beats me or kills me. Once they have my money, maybe they give it to the poor, buy crack, or hell, maybe give me cab fare home!

How does it make a difference if I just replace "man" with "taxman"? The exact same thing is going on. You just aren't used to seeing what is really going on under the magic curtain of the word "government".

I disagree that what makes a good society work is taking money by force from one group and giving it to another group or purpose. I know that is what we've been doing, but that doesn't make it good. All those things you mentioned are great, schools, infrastructure etc. But that doesn't mean that forcing people to do it the way our government has done it in the past is good. People are able to make their own decisions for their own best interest and for those around them without getting locked into government bureacracy and stagnation. You may have noticed that government is particularly poor at picking winners in the economy.

Finally, please read my post. I never ADVOCATED lynching and rioting; you are correct, that would be illegal. I'm only pointing out that throughout history, rulers have been deposed violently by the ruled, and it looks to me like we could see those circumstances here.

You both are right on this one.

Whether you tax wealth, property, income, wages or breathing, the money goes away from the earner/owner and is redistributed to whatever "worthy" cause/person your elected representative feels like rewarding.

So the democrats reward unions and the republicans reward business. Big deal.

The main point is that it is taken from the person who earned/owned it by force and given away at the whim of whomever is pretending to be looking after our best interests.

As long as they don't take too much, and we don't care, this parasitical behavior can continue. What they had better be afraid of is, with the downturn in this economy, that they may already be taking too much. They better hope that the peasants don't revolt and start lynching legislators. We could be moving this way very soon if GM goes bankrupt and half the state is unemployed and the state is unable to fund unemployment insurance timely.

Remember 1968. People will only take so much. At a certain point, anyone can snap.

a RE-DISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH takes away from one person, the wage earner, and gives it to ANOTHER PERSON, the welfare recipient.

a TAX CUT doesn't TAKE AWAY ANYTHING, it lets the WAGE EARNER KEEP HIS MONEY.

THAT is the difference.

If you are a wage earner then the GOP are redistributing your hard earned money to the wealthy.

This is because only the SS payroll tax payers are paying a SURPLUS of tax revenue. SS payroll taxes are collected ONLY on wages under $100,000.00. Republican INCOME tax cuts take the payroll tax surplus collected from wage earners under $100,000.00 and REDISTRIBUTES 90% of it to incomes over $100,000.00 and to Capital Gains. Millionaires who paid not one penny into the payroll tax surplus!
Please explain how an income tax cut does not redistribute the payroll tax surplus!
