Same thing just happened in our small town of Little Lake in the U.P. Simply pathetic of MDOT and the MSP. There is an intersection where C.R. 456 meets M-35 and several businesses. Houses line m-35 and children are found playing. Our speed limit is now 55 (but with Yellow 35mpg signs yippie!!!) up from 35!~ We were told the recommended speed is going to remain 35 which was the speed limit, but for some strange reason they are raising the maximum speed limit and forgetting our children's lives are more important than Truckers ripping 55+ around a 90 corner in the middle of our town!

Our speed limit is being raised from 25 mph to 45/55 mph without regard of the wishes of the residents who live on our street. Apparently, keeping the speeders happy is a priority. Why is everyone that we contact passing the buck. What happened to "of the people, by the people and for the people." Gudith Road; Brownstown Twsp.

Way to go Mr. Palmer now we can go 55 mph on our dirt roads. You must be proud of that law. Lets see now, out here in the country we have no sidewalks therefore we use the roads to walk in the evening, to ride our horses, our kids use these roads to ride their bikes. You, Mr. Palmer, need to stand on the side of the raod and get pelted by a stone by a passing vehicle going faster that 25..Let me tell you it hurts. With all that is wrong in this state this is the best you could come up with for trying to help out. It's sad that that we elected people like you that have nothing better to say and do in your position other than promote silly laws like this . This is just as bad as the Name changing of our highways. I don't think we intended to have elected officials such as you passing laws like this when there are far more important matters to address. When i see your name up for re-election I will be sure to remind people in this district of this law you proposed and passed.

How is this going to change anything? people are driving 55mph in 25mph zones now, forget the freeway, anyone driving less than 70mph gets plowed over!!!

2005 House Bill 5240 (Revise speed limit law formulas )

Introduced in the House on September 28, 2005, to establish a establish a "general speed limit" of 55 miles per hour on highways where the maximum speed limit is not otherwise fixed. The bill would also establish other new “prima facie” (or “unless otherwise marked) highway speed limits of 30 miles per hour in a business district (currently 25 mph); 25 miles per hour in public parks (no change); 25 miles per hour on a highway segment with 60 or more vehicular access points within one-half mile (meaning driveways and intersecting roadways); 35 miles per hour on a highway segment with 45 to 59 vehicular access points within one-half mile; and 45 miles per hour on a highway segment with no more than 44 vehicular access points within one-half mile

The vote was 101 in favor, 0 opposed and 7 not voting
