The numbers are virtually the same over the last 3 years. There hasn't been any dramatic increase as a result of the law change. That's the point. I have no reason to believe that the death toll would have been dramatically lower if the law DIDN'T change going by the previous years numbers. But there is no satisfying you. That's fine, you are entitled to your opinion. The best part of the law change that rarely is mentioned is that if you want to wear a helmet, you still have the right to CHOOSE to do so. The question that should be asked is how many lives could have been saved if the driver of the car was paying attention!

How many of those 40 deaths could have been prevented if helmets were worn? Did you really expect the insurance rates to increase so soon?

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I've been busy working and enjoying the last 6 MONTHS OF FREEDOM!! I believe that was from a Det News article. According to the OHSP the stats are in for 2010, 11 & 12 from 1-1 thru 8-31. In 2010 there were 97 fatalities during that time frame. In 2011, there were 89 fatalities. This year there were 91. 47 were wearing helmets, 40 were not and 4 are listed as unknown. What is not listed is that motorcycle registrations have increased this year as they have in EVERY state that has loosened their helmet requirements. Also, insurance rates have NOT increased as a result of passage of this law. Everything ABATE has been saying for years, decades in fact, has come true. There has not been a dramatic increase of dead bikers on our roads. Turns out that actually was just fear mongoring, scare-tactic rhetoric.

I think all motorcycle drivers should have to wear helmets. This would not be a good bill to pass here. SO many people get hurt without helmets. It is very dangerous to happen. Cambridge Life Solutions - Commercial

Wish all this would stop the law has been passed and ride way of without a helmet it now up to you. Dead is dead and if all 33 dead people could be here that is what they would say... Move on the law in place and we have the choice. Keep riding and look out for the cars and trucks that are not looking out for you. Ask people to look twice and more biker will live longer...

July 12th marked the 3-month anniversary of freedom! Michigan has had 33 fatal motorcycle accidents so far this year. 19 with helmets, 14 without. This time last year there were 47 fatal accidents! Keep in mind this year we have had a warmer spring and a dryer summer.

WARNING: Our MCCA portion of our insurance is going up 21% as of July 1st! This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with the passage of this bill (although I'm sure someone will blame it on this). This was schedueled to happen before this bill was even voted on. It has EVERYTHING to do with the insurance companies wanting no-fault reform. No-fault reform was supposed to pass before the end of last year. However it was meet with a WALL of opposition. Therefore no-fault reform is on hold until after the election. The insurance companies figure that if MCCA becomes too costly, it will be meet with less opposition down the road. That's what is really happening! So if people start blaming rate increases on helmet choice, that can easily be refuted. Besides, we still have the tape of Pete Kuhnmeunch's sworn testimony that rates WILL NOT go up as a result of helmet choice.

Yes. I'm insured through Progressive and they offered me a $5K, $10K, or $25K policy. The $25K policy cost me an additional $93 per year. That's what I have.

What does the $20,000 medical mean? A seperate policy over and above your current ( BCBS or HAP) health insurance?
