To me this is another form of dictationship. House Bill 6752 (Authorize Detroit "light rail" or streetcar system ). Where is the voice of the people? Here in Highland Park I think that its a waste of tax payers dollars to break up Woodward Avenue to run a trans system up and down Woodward. From Tennyson (South) to Six Mile Rd (North). The people who voted to put our so-called State & Senator in Lansing was brain damaged, due to the fact that neither one has spoken up for the community, and they are in the game to destory not to help. This is a outrage to ask the State to give state road tax money to disrespect the Citizens here in Highland Park. We are one small (2.9 sq mile) City that is the heart of Detroit, and we have outsiders invading our City to take it over like it was back in the 1940s. Our City is 98% Black, but we have Blacks who are selling out to people who do not mean any good to Highland Park. So what if the vote was 70 in favor, and 36 opposed the Community did not have the rights to have a say so or vote. I am against light rail coming through the City of Highland Park, and my organization The Community Movement in Highland Park is prepared to do battle to stop this private people's invasion. Another historical item of interest is in the 1950s there was Streetcars running up & down Woodward until this so-called Urban Renewal was created, and now 50 years later here come light rail & streetcars again? Thanks for messing up Woodward Ave.

I sure missed poking the liberal with the truth stick. Had a few travel days getting home from our Christmas vacation. Now it's back to work in the evil non union private sector that allows me such extravagances. Just wanted to say hi and keep up the good work, looks like blue boys is on the run. you still haven't answered the question of what a city like detroit, which is losing the largest industry in the world, is going to do with a streetcar system?

what good will it do?

are busses not good enough?

where will the people of detroit go? obviously NOT to school. obviously NOT to work. perhaps they will all go to the welfare lines.

perhaps the gang bangers will use the streetcar to deal drugs around the city, as opposed to stealing cars. perhaps they will stage their "drive-by" shootings out the window of the streetcar.

i wonder how long it will be before the taxpayers are asked to shell out even more dollars to give the poor and unfortunate detroiters unlimited streecar passes on the public dole.

if detroit wants a streetcar, let detroit follow the lead of new orleans, and san francisco, and pay for it themselves.

now, i don't know where YOU learned anything about city planning, (i'm not even sure you ever DID learn anything about city planning) but it helps to have someplace to go BEFORE you build a train that goes there. even then, it helps to have a REASON TO GO THERE.

remember, the famous AUTOBAHN you are so proud of was MOSTLY built by slave labor from concentration camps that several of your ilk say didn't exist.

the city i used to live in, new orleans, had a top notch public transportation system, including a hundred plus year old street car system, busses, ferry boats, and horse drawn carriages.

it didn't stop the unemployment rate from topping out at fifty two percent. and that's with other counties just BLOCKS away getting in the low teens. it didn't stop the welfare rate from topping out at over fifty five percentm with the most bustling entertainment and tourist business in the country right in the hip pocket.

it also didn't stop the murder rate from being consistantly in the top three, usually after detroit and D.C..

now, what do you think that a streecar system will accomplish in a city that is losing the nations largest industry?

Its the future for Michigan and the USA.

VIABLE Public transportation will end up making or breaking a country and its economy.

Europe is FAR ahead of the USA and we need to move forward on this. FAST as possible.

It's not the future, it's another bloated government make work project. If it can support itself then I'm all for it. One of these boondoggles on the west coast costs so much that it would have been much cheaper to just buy all the riders a new Cadillac.

As for europe, they have tiny little countries with all the people squashed in together. Maybe it makes sense there but I doubt it. Don't believe the hype, everything "europe" isn't so great. I work with many germans and they never go back once they're here, seems they don't want a 1000 sq. ft. apartment when they can have a 2400 sq. ft. home in the burbs. Most of them don't have anything good to say about the public transportation either. You know not of what you speak.
