I am in support of the PTA licensure. I was outraged at the ammendment the chiropractors tried to attach to our bill! I have been waiting all day to hear the results of the vote today. My entire staff made phone calls and sent emails to our representatives yesterday and it sounds like they listened. Can you tell me where you found out the results of the vote. I have not been able to find the information online. I agree and hope that Jennifer Granholm realizes the urgency of this bill getting signed. Our PTA's are an integral part of our outpatient hospital satellite clinic which is primarily orthopedic patients. After 10 years of working primarily in outpatient ortho, I am sure they would struggle with an exam that includes diagnoses they have not treated. This does not mean that they are not competent working in an orthopedic based clinic. I am sure that PT's would have similar difficulty if placed in the same position.

I fully agree with smcf. I am in the same position. I have been out of school for 13 yesrs and have mainly been in acute care ortho environment. It is my understanding that SB 151 has passed the House of Reps today Thurs 6/18 with a vote of 107 yes to 1 no. It was supoosed to be brought to the floor yesterday and at the last minute an ammentment was added by chiroprators to include them to be able to eval & treat the areas that should only be performed by P.T.'s With quick action by MPTA members we were able to have the bill removed and not reviewed with the ammendment attached. It was brought to the floor today for a vote without the ammendment regarding chiroprators. The bill has passed but now it needs to be signed by Jennifer. Let's hope it happens in a timely manner. What are your thoughts?

I have heard that SB 151 was to come before the house yesterday for a full vote. Did the vote take place and what was the outcome.

I see that this bill SB `151 continues to move forward however it must be passed before the July break. can someone help me to understand the process that will take place to pass this bill into law. can someone tell me if this is on the calander for a vote?

This bill must be passed with a grandfather clause to keep thousands of PTA employed in the state of Michigan and assure patient recieve the therapy they need.

According to a representative of the MPTA, it was recommended I take a licensing exam in another state in case the bill passed after the July recess. The MPTA is claiming they will not have "enough time" to issue special licenses by January 1, 2010, to everyone that would require one if the bill passes too late. If this is true, then this bill needs much further consideration. Also, Section 17827, lines 4-9 of the bill, state "the board shall grant a limited license to an applicant...until the board formally issues or denies a license to an applicant". I feel this wording leaves us at a disadvantage, allowing the board to deny a license. What would the criteria be for denying a license?

In these hard times, I feel the last thing we need to worry about is losing our jobs because some people feel PTA's should be licensed. Requiring PTA's who have been out of school many years to take a state board is unfair. Some of us have chosen to specialize in specific fields of our profession and have not used ALL the skills we learned in school for many years, but that does not mean we are not highly skilled in our area of interest.

Please do not let this bill pass unless it is guaranteed that PTA's that graduated from an accredited program will be "grandfathered".

Just wonder when the House Health Policy Committee will take action on this bill. I do believe this is an important bill however we need to include the granfathering for P.T.A.s who have been in the field . If we do not included grandfathering we will lose hundreds if not thousand of jobs in Michigan and the health care industry and the welfare of the citizens will be comprimised. We as a state cannot replaced the P.T.A.s that would be lost.
