2012 House Bill 6060 (Give county officials power to halt recall as "non-factual")

Introduced in the House on November 28, 2012, to require county election commissions to determine whether the reasons for a recall petition are stated both "factually and clearly." Under current law, they must simply determine whether the recall language is clear. Note: This may violate Article 8, Section 8 of Michigan's constitution, which asserts that recallers don't have to justify their reasons, but only make them clear

The vote was 65 in favor, 43 opposed and 2 not voting

(House Roll Call 685 at House Journal 0)

SHAME ON OUR MICHIGAN REPUBLICAN REPRESENTATIVES WHO VOTED 100% IN FAVOR OF LIMITING AND DIMINISHING THE PEOPLE's AUTHORITY TO RECALL. In 1983 two Democrats were recalled for voting to increase the income tax. One of those recalled was my then Senator Phil Mastin. Believe me - this grassroots effort was no walk in the park for all of us who gathered the petition signatures. If this change had been in place back in 1983 the recall would never have taken place.
