And this is important why? What is the background for this? Has there been a study of what impact this has had?

So, I have to remove the ball from the bumper of my pickup? Does my grandpa have to remove the hitch from the front of the car he tows behind the camper...oh yeah - and remove the hitch from the camper in the campground? My neighbor has a 5th wheel, I suppose I'll have to help him remove that hitch now. STOP WASTING YOUR TIME AND MY TAX DOLLARS ON THIS SORT OF BULL CRAP!!!!

What is the purpose of this legislation? If I bang my legs or shins on a hitch it is MY fault not that of the owner of the vehicle. I should look where I am walking. Forget about this. It is too much regulation.

WTF? Is this what you people were elected to do? waste the taxpayers money with silly regulations? . Get a grip and stop wasting time with regulating the people out of existence. Please feel free to remove this and all regulations that try to regulate common sense. If it seams like a good idea, stop ask an adult near by and get their input before proposing anything!

Sounds like an answer to a nonexistent question.  Obviously, this must have been proposed by someone who never tows trailers.

Why are we worrying about something like this.  There are reasons why people have hitches on the auto and no they are not going to use them all the time.   There are so many more issues in this state to worry about.

Why dont helmets have to be worn on a motorcycle but you get a ticket if you dont have  seatbelt on and you are protected by a vehicle as well?

Are you kidding me? Is this all our Legislature has to 'work' on right now? Representative George T. Darany has WAY too much time on his hands and I would HOPE that the other representatives would have shouted him down on this! This is pure insanity. I would bet that he doesn't have a hitch and has never trailered anything in his life. I told a friend about this and he said the farmers in this state would go nuts over this law. What, did one of his friends walk behind a truck/SUV, etc and bang their shins on a hitch. Well, heck...you should watch where you're walking you moron! I just cannot figure out how this could EVER be an issue that warrants legistlation. Come on Lansing...get real.

WTF? Really? If there ever was a time to put "part-time legislation" on the ballot, it's NOW!

Wouldn't it make more sense to ban Darany from ever holding any type of office above librarian...He needs run OUT of office on the back of a pickup truck!!!!!

Do you have any idea how inconvenient it would be to remove your hitch each time you're not using it?    What is the issue here?   What are you trying to prevent?   How about everyone be banned from leaving their house to drive (no pun intended) the rate of accidents down to zero?     What ever happened to common sense?    No driver should be driving so close to a truck that the hitch would cause damage unless the driver is NOT paying attention to the task at hand - driving!   With unemployment, gas rates, and food prices going up, up, up; don't you have more serious issues to address?    I'm embarrassed for you.

New to this site but want to ask why when you "click here to view bill details" you get nothing informative (which seems absurd based on what it says or maybe I don't yet know how to navigate - but it seems the link is misleading) .

I did look up the bill elsewhere and it gives no reason for this statement in the bill:

        (7) A PERSON SHALL NOT OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE UPON A HIGHWAY WITH TEMPORARY TOWING DEVICES, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, ABALL AND HITCH, ATTACHED TO THE VEHICLE UNLESS THE MOTOR VEHICLE IS BEING USED FOR TOWING PURPOSES.

Anyway - this particular statement in the bill seems to be ridiculous without knowing the reason for it.  The rest of the bill might be fine but I will leave that up to the people who tow vehicles on a regular basis.  Can someone please enlighten me on the reasoning being this statement that seems so out of place with the rest of the bill verbiage?

I would also like to know if anyone in the legislature is responding to any of these posts

I have an idea! The creation of this arbitrary and unnecessary law, (It has no ethical or safety basis whatsoever, save the people with too much time on there hands who seem to be able to come up with a reason for everything), which is of course highly biased, not to mention flat out stupid, is simply for revenue collection! Lets scale all public office positions to part time so they have to actually work, and won't have too much time on their hands! Of course it wouldn't hurt if society got over its issues with voting in the guy promising the free handout but never delivers! This law should be repealed and all those that voted in favor of it should receive pink slips and be replaced. American freedom expansion!

I can’t imagine why a law would be created for this non sense, I can only speculate. Some time ago

I was rear ended in my truck by a driver as I slowed to turn onto my street. She was following too close

And on her cell phone at the time she hit me. After both of us exiting our vehicles and looked for damage she was very angry that her car had all the damage, and I had none. My trailer hitch only sticks out 6” past my rear bumper.

This is a typical liberal Democrtaic piece of crap legislation.  Yes, we need a part time legislature, but more importantly we need  MUCH LESS regulation. Look at the rest of his bills---pure pandering.  Goerge is only atempting to show he is doing something by introducing nonsense such as this.  It's disgusting.  Can you imagine...he should be embarassed by introducing such garbage.
