Great bill.  Taxpayer money should not be spent on people who choose to spend their resources on illegal drugs.

Hune obviously knows not of what he introduced here.Safeguards are already in place this issue and they have been for years. Like a lot of other showboats in the legislature he's just demonstrating his ignorant stupidity and lack of understanding of welfare issues.

So what happens if a welfare recipient is found positive for drugs? His cut from the money and the welfare may be his only source of income, what happens with that person then? I don't want to think about that outcome. Wouldn't the drug testing money be better invested for funding anti-drug initiatives? Some people are addicted to drugs but hate their condition and struggle to quit, why not help them? I recently read about some interesting initiatives on drug rehab Irvine, that was an eye opener for me.

How stupid, or should I say, what are the limits of stupidity in the Republican controlled Michigan legislature? Michigan is fast becoming the second most laughed at state (just behind Arizona) when it comes to ludicrous, pick on the poor, no  brainers generated by a bunch of neocon rhinos whose only intent  here is to enhance their collective images at the expense of those least able to defend themselves. Florida's legislature and its governor went down this path and after great hoopla and expense found it worthless in terms of those found to be using. Just as  important it didn't deter people from applying for assistance which is really what all these Republicans want in the first place. They just can't abide the fact there are entitlement programs we are all entitled to apply for just as there the multitude of tax breaks given the rich under the ruse of "job creation". It is too bad they don't have to pee in a cup to qualify for all those tax breaks.

The statement by rauper2 is your typical left wing liberal who doesn't have any problem spending someone else's taxes that they pay into the system and when they (the taxpayer) has his opinion they attack them. This is typical of progressive, whining and crybaby rhetoric!

Place this drug addict on a suspension period of time, 1st. offense, supervised, random tests during this period. 2nd offense and 3rd offenses same but longer periods. 4th. Off the rolls. It is not fair to place this persons personal life on the backs of the taxpayers after failing all of the above. China did this and the people were hooked and the government controlled the whole population.

If you vote to require drug testing of welfare applicants, then you'd damn well better vote to test all the state legislature and state employees. How absurd can you get?

C'mon Tatertop, you forgot to add Socialist, Follower of Saul Alinsky, Anarchist, Communist plotter and Liberal to your time worn, inane litany describing those of us who live in the real world.

I recognize that your belief system is one of the "I got mine, screw you" types so popular among the right wing nowadays. Fortunately that attitude is representative of but a  dwindling group who are the laughing stock of this state. Keep it up and you'll find yourself rubbing elbows with the people (white people, that is) who believe they are endowed with special privileges and status. Clearly, this group is fearful of the eventuality that non-whites will be the voting majority. They assume retribution and/or reverse racism will take its toll and they will be among its targets when that day arrives.

The fallacy of that thinking is that the new voting majority are far more intelligent and accepting of the views of those who disagree with them than what is so evident today.

This bill has been needed for a long time. I think the ideas behind this is so good. So many of the applicants are on drugs and should not get it. WE have to push this bill. Richmond Movers

Brian Wood.............testing an applicant for drugs to "receive" an entitlement paid for buy the taxpayers who are footing the bill is alot different than a person who works and receives his own paycheck to purchase drugs. The taxpayers are not evolved in this expense. Re-Distribution of the Wealth (taxpayers money-entitlements) has to have strings attached unless you have the mindset like Barack Obama.

I agree with this law, I think any applicant for welfare shouldn't even buy Dianabol legal steroids or test positive for any kind of drugs. Public health has become finally public and i am very glad to hear that the community is dealing with its problems as it should do.
