This is really stupid! If so much money wasnt diverted to non-road-repair use, there would be plenty of money for road repair. I suppose the good (but still unemployed) people of Michigan are supposed to be to dumb to know that this raises their driving costs, and since gas is continually going up-supposedly to reach a high of $5 this summer-we will forever pay more. We can NOT afford this! Is this how you intend to pay for the trains to nowhere???

A Republican in the state house with a Republican legislature, and all they want to do is raise taxes on the working, (and unemployed) citizens of Michigan. Gov. Granholm doesn't look so bad now .

Un"fricking"believable!!!! We already pay some of the highest gas taxes in the country. Raising our gas tax is really going to make people want to vacation in Michigan or do business in Michigan. How stupid is Sen. Kahn (should be spell Con) and anyone else that co-sponsors this bill? Not only the cost of driving, but the cost to operate boats, snowmobiles, lawn mowers, lawn service, snow removal services, delivery service and on and on. Ultimately who will pay for the additional cost of company's doing business? Not the companies. So we will pay twice for increased gas prices. I thought things would change when the Republicans took control. What a joke. STOP the wasteful spending and maybe there would be enough money.
Get rid of the illegal's and stop paying for all their FREE ***. I don't get free healthcare, food stamps, free school lunch, welfare, home heating, electric, or free ANYTHING. I bet we'd have plenty of money then. Start passing some of the bill's Dave Agema has proposed and get rid of these freeloaders.

The bill was created in response to pressure Gov. Rick Snyder, who has said he wants to see legislators come up with a way to raise an additional $1.4 billion in funding for state projects, according to the Associated Press.

The poll, conducted by EPIC-MRA of Lansing, found 58 percent opposed new gas taxes and increased vehicle registration fees, even for road repair.

    * 36 percent of the 600 people polled said they were in favor of the proposed changes. Shovel ready JOBS? Stimulating ain't it?

    * The proposal would mean an average increase of 9 cents a gallon in taxes and approximately $60 per vehicle in registration fees. Total revenue from those increases could potentially bring the state more than $1 billion to put into transportation infrastructure.

    * Different parts of the bill are co-sponsored by Democrats and Republicans. Cozy, huh? Mr.Kuhn?

    * The changes in the gas tax would raise the average tax from the current 19 cents per gallon to 28 cents. Gallon of gas $3.75

    * The proposed change to registration fees translates to an average increase of 67 percent. The fees would be based on the estimated value of the vehicle being registered. So if you now pay $120 if this bill becomes law you will pay over $200, sweet.....

Griffith also claimed Michigan's gas tax was already among the highest in the nation. That works out nicely since our auto insurance is the highest in the nation.....Hey Rick? You and Obama been seeing each other?

This increase in taxes will harm MI families and businesses.  It will harm tourism.  The people of Michigan are taxed enough already.  This is government greed straight up.  Find the money "needed" from cutting the current budget.
