2011 Senate Bill 806 (Revise unemployment insurance social welfare program )

Introduced in the Senate on November 9, 2011, to revise various elements of the state unemployment insurance social welfare system. This is part of the package authorizing state borrowing to pay off some $3.2 billion in unemployment system debt, owed because benefit payments exceeded payroll tax revenues (see Senate Bills 483 and 484). The bill would revise the formulas for assessing these payroll taxes on employers; require beneficiaries to accept alternative work at lower pay than currently required; increase required job-search disclosures and reporting by beneficiaries; clarify factors making an employee ineligible for unemployment benefits (like stealing or absenteeism); and more. It would also make employees in a “work sharing” program eligible for unemployment benefits

The vote was 23 in favor, 11 opposed and 4 not voting

This bill is a positive for the state of Michigan and growth.  Plain and simple.  The entitlement culture that is festuring with the liberal ideology that believes in big government is responsible for you from cradle to grave is bankrupting America.  Michigan has taken the first giant step to recovery.  We are sorry for the Democrats in the House and  Senate that jdon't see America as a great country and instead they keep on voting the Saul Alinksy way with the Cloward & Piven strategies in between.  Sad!

What a scam.  Those who voted for this bill, can you believe most people in Michigan have only have one car like us and it is 12 years old.  OK, than you loose your job cause the boss wants to save money, he says you are fired.  Now, you may not get any unemployment cause of these new rules and the employer has the say and the worker is now in a worse way.  If he does get unemployment, after 10 weeks, he is offered a job, lets say he lives in Muskegon, and the job offer is in Grand Rapids, with half the pay he did get before, he has to drive to Grand Rapids, a 80 mile round trip plus wear and tear on an old car.  Do republicans know how people are already hurting, do they really care?  I am totally outraged about this bill and those who voted for it...have you ever been without work, like four years with no health insurance, no extra anything, just surviving. Wake up Republicans,  the true Michigan people will not put up with you and your agenda anymore.

The sad truth is, backwoodsbetty, the republicans do know how bad people are hurting, but they don't care. It is in fact good for business when people are desperate for work. They will work for less, longer hours, and many times in unsafe conditions, just to barely scrape by. This increases profits available to CEO's for their outlandish bonuses. The saddest part about this is that these republicans were put into office by convincing workers the government was too big; the government that gave us unemployment insurance, workman's compensation, OSHA, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, VA benefits, keeps our air and water clean, and protects our nation with the armed services.

You are wrong about "typical liberal broken record", I care for others, not the almighty dollar.

So sad you go into name calling, Lord knows I am not a useless idiot and I can tell you have not lived many years on this earth to experience life and how people struggle.

The government should be very careful with the money it spends on welfare. Don't get me wrong, we need that money to go to people that can't work but at the same time there are tons of freeloaders only milking the hard worked tax money. I've been unemployed and luckily I found www.clickbooth.com and made a living out of it but I've seen some worse cases...

There is definitely so much work that needs to be done on this program. So many people take advantage of the program and this has to be fixed. I really hope to see it happen. bongs
