Introduced in the House on October 26, 2011, to establish that a county road commission can be eliminated by a county board if its creation was originally authorized by the county board, and eliminated by a vote of the people if that's how it was originally authorized. If either happens, the county board would assume the duty of managing the county's road system

The vote was 66 in favor, 40 opposed and 3 not voting

 Looks like MOST of the NO votes on the Democratic side came from Detroit!  One can only wonder why!  Pathetic!  Their ideology of entitlements forever still hasn't changed has it?

Sorry, Tatertots, this bill has nothing to do with entitlements.  Forget about Detroit and think local!

This passage was a bad idea, and will prove to be so.  In the case of the Board of Commissioners, especially in the Northern Counties, they are not full time, lets call them employees, of a county.  They are citizens elected by their peers.

Do they have knowledge, engineering, etc. needed to construct, maintain our roads and highways? NO!!  It should have been left up to the Road Commission who employ at the County level, qualified engineers and knowledge crews.

You think Michigan roads are in bad shape now, just wait until a Board of Commissioners take over!  Can't believe what ridiculous ideas and behavior this Legislature is coming up with.  When can we get rid of them???????????????

 With Road commissions comes entitlements from road commissions such as favors to friends and relatives, jobs to friends and relatives and the list goes on and on!

 

Locally, not as bad ................but it is present and everyone knows it.....except the ones who won't admint it for "some reason" or another! Ha

Spot on MS32. This is a bad idea, exactly for the reasons you state. We can't get rid of this bunch of ideological misfits for a few years yet, and it will then take years to undo the damage they have done to our state. I hope the electorate in Michigan have learned from this viasco, but I have my doubts, especially reading post like "tatertots".

 

I am amazed when I read some these comments!!! My own recent fight with the Ottawa County Road Commission has proven without a doubt that many of these commissionors could care less about the people they are souppose to represent!!! It is rubber stamp time , business as usual .   Keep the paycheck and benifits coming.  NO ACCOUNTABILITY ,UNTOUCHABLE, CAN AND WILL DO ANYTHING THEY WISH, INCLUDING TAKING AWAY THE RIGHTS OF A FARMER DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD!!!!! Yes it has been a struggle to say the least. Lots of money to protect MY RIGHTS TO DRIVE ON A ROAD. All because a government agency thinks they have the power of GOD !!! Our founding fathers warned of the enemy from within! Boy did they have forsight or what! This is the next best opportunity for the people of MICHIGAN to take some of their rights back! And hold these officials accountable!!! We must have Leaders Who Are Elected by the PEOPLE , to minimize the opportunities for a GOOD OLD BOYS CLUB!

 Road commissioners are elected by the people.  At least in MY county....and having such a small group of people makes them more approachable.  It's too bad the real issues aren't addressed-the SHORTAGE OF FUNDING.  Instead of ripping everything apart, maybe they should look at how to increase the funding and how to better make it work!  So easy to sit back and make decisions in Lansing.....the only winners out of this mess are the CITIES.  The thought of County Commissioners now trying to manage roads is just ridiculous!

 Road Commissions need to go the way.  They are nothing but a rip-off.

 Road Commissions are an entitlement and here is why:  Take a look at Wayne countys road commission and their free spending and hiring with relatives and goods with county $$.  Ficano and his cronys are a providing a big entitlement  their cronys for supporting him.

Any proof for those allegations?
