I am new to Michigan and a home schooling parent. We pay just as much in taxes as do you and recieve no funding to school our children. It seems only fair that all citizens would have equal access to the state educational resources.
Also, why would this have anything to do with the separation of church and state. Do religious families send their children to the public schools and universities? Are religious people to be barred from using the resources of the state because of their choice to follow a religion? I submit that you have misunderstood the purpose of the 1st amendment. It was not put in place to protect the citizen from having to associate with others with differing religious beliefs, it is in place to protect the citizen from an overreaching government which would dictate to the citizen to which church he should belong and contribute (ie. a state sponsored church)
This law will be a great boon to our family. And another proof that Michigan is the freest state in the nation when it comes to education.
