As a Republican, I am EXTREMELY disappointed at the number of you who voted for this.  You're pushing me toward becoming an independent more and more every day.  What happened to NO NEW TAXES?  That is exactly what you're doing when you increase fees.  CUT THE SPENDING PEOPLE.  The citizens CANNOT AFFORD to pay higher fees!!  JOE HUNE, THANKS FOR HAVING THE GUTS TO VOTE NO.

Pay the Secretary of State more administrative expenses for what! Maybe they need some $18.00  muffins. If they don’t have the funds to run CUT BACK!!!! That’s what every household in the US has to do when we come up short at the end of the month and that’s just what our family will have to do when we have to pay the increased fees to register our vehicles. You guys just don’t get it at all, our roads are crumbling right under us and we are giving those tax dollars away for administrative expenses? WAKE UP!! And start doing what we the people want you to do and spend our tax dollars wisely. Remember one thing you can’t change is our VOTE and we are all watching

NO NEW TAXES, STOP SPENDING, STOP WASTING, STOP REGULATING!!

REMEMBER EVERY DOLLAR WE GIVE TO THE GOVERNMENT TO WASTE IS A DOLLAR WE CAN’T SPEND AT THE SUPERMARKET!!!!

And I thought the Republicans were against new taxes and bigger government. Have they been deceiving those poor teabaggers.

This bill only raises the CMV by $10.00 to offset the cost of Federal Compliance. You should love this it cost only the business owners that you love to hate. Again you look the fool Gypsy. This bill is mostly about highway saftey.

Re: 2011 Senate Bill 495 (Increase various vehicle registration taxes and more )

What will it take for People to wake up and see what these Statists are doing ? The 2008 Freshmen  Republicans in the House and Senate, many elected by aligning themselves with Tea Party activists, have been voting lock step to raise taxes on the middle class. Snyder, presenting himself as a some kind of folksy nerd, a political outsider, has hoodwinked these Freshman, who evidently still don't have a clue.

Eliminating the Michigan Business Tax was a good thing because it increases economic freedom. Eliminating the Personal Property tax will also increase economic freedom. But freedom is not what Synder cares about. A logical progression of eliminating the Personal Property Tax would be to eliminate all Property Taxes in Michigan. True economic freedom would be served by People owning their own property. As it is now, government owns all property in Michigan. Don't pay your property tax and see who owns your property. The Sheriff with put your stuff on the curb and change the locks on your door. Property Taxes are the means by which Statist control Citizens.

What is Snyder doing with the cash he is confiscating from Pensioners, Homeowners, K-12 Education, College Students, and the Working Poor ? Check out the Business Leaders for Michigan (BLM) website. Check out the Michigan Economic Developlment Corporation (MEDC) website. Snyder is thick with these two groups. The BLM has two main projects, the Aerotropolis and the Research Corridor. The Aerotropolis has been in the News, and for all the wrong reasons. Two nominal political enemies, former Governor John Engler and former Wayne County Executive Ed McNamara, got together at the end of their terms to put their poltical friends in charge of the Airport and the land known as Pinnacle Park. Snyder, and Business Leaders for Michgan have been waiting to cash in by socializing capitol and privatizing profit.

I'll show you where you're wrong.  I just got my bill from the Secretary of State for my plate renewal in November.  It went up 60 percent.  Yep, that's right, 60 percent.  We own a 2006 Envoy and a 1998 Malibu.  Last year the total cost for both vehicles was $146.  This year, since the law was passed, the Envoy, by itself, cost $147.  The Malibu cost $96.

The bill we are talking about doesn't take effect until Jan 2012, so it did not cause your renewals to increase. Although I agree you may have a complaint if you paid that much. I have a 2010 Buick Enclave and  2002 S10 and only paid $ 234.00 up from $231.00 a year earlier.

Sure. "Also" means in addition to, and please notice the date it takes effect.

Passed 78 to 31 in the House on September 28, 2011, to increase various vehicle registration taxes between Oct. 1, 2011 and 2015, and continue diverting around $114 million from various driver-license and vehicle registration fees and surtaxes away from road project funding. Instead, this money is being used to pay Secretary of State administrative expenses. The bill also increases fees and various regulations on commercial motor vehicles and commercial drivers licenses.

    •  Received in the Senate on September 28, 2011.
    • Passed 24 to 14 in the Senate on September 28, 2011, to concur with the House-passed version of the bill.

Gypsy , you are quoting the Admin not the actuall bill. The bill will increase the fee for a vechicle group designation from $25.00 to $35.00 the $10.00 increase would offset the cost associated with states compliance with federal commerical license regulations. the term group designation refers to commerical vechicle class . The bill goes on to change regulations for commercial carriers and commerical drivers. I also find it hard for you to defend  the 60 % increase, the law will not take effect until next year.

Are you accusing the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, a very Republican organization, of publicizing false information? Why would they print this if it wasn't true?

You are taking it out of context, read the bill !!!  This is about commercial vehicles , and commercial regulations to comply to the federal goverment regulations.

I am not "taking it out of context". I read the bill, and what the Mackinac Center says the bill does. They are not the same. The Mackinac Center has identified bills wrongly before on this site, I suspect they have done that in this case. What they describe and what the bill identified does does not concur. I'm sure you have more influence with them than I would. Maybe you can get them to correct their error, and if there is a bill that matches their description, identify it.

SB495 is the bill we are refering to,it is about commerical vehicles only.I can find no bill about raising registration fees for passenger cars or light trucks.

Frankly I think it's just a matter of time until the law becomes available for light vehicles too. I've been thinking about putting my car on a donate a car program so I can get a new one, I guess now it's the time to make this move before anything else changes. It's getting tougher and tougher to maintain car ownership, I can only assume that this is what they are aiming for.

The tissue (this bill) is definitely too rough for what you suggest. More suited to wipe republicans out of office with.

Sorry about republicans out of office gypsy because in 2012 and for the next 50 years, conservatism will dominate the election cycles.  Your Boy President and his queen Spender have placed the country in debt so far that the Party of Food Stamps will never see the light of day for quite some time.  How's that Hope and Change thing working out for America now?  Actual unemployment is around 17% ...not 8.5% like the moonbat libs portray it to the MSM.

You like that word "increase". If Republicans stay in office, your going to see it attached to many taxes and fees. Hope that's the change you're looking for.

For once we now have an agreement.  If Gov. Synder and the Senate want the people of Michigan to pay higher registration fees which is just another form of taxes then they will be primaried with new republicans to take their place in government next election.

Gypsy - for you to agree here isn't the best idea, because you support the gm bailout, which your taxes are going to pay for and you know gm got tax incentives, just like the banks did for making the sub prime loans so what gives you have colored the kettle BLACK.

MRS Gypsy - i may live in the basement but at least i dont have to report to the union. I think that joining a union would waive your first Amendment right. what is amazing is these unions crafted this plan and made you pay for it outstanding. and if you didnt pay for it you didnt have a union membership so in a non-right to work state you would not work at that facility. from the basement.
