This bill is long past due. Michigan is currently very deficiant in it's respect shown to Veterans via it's motor vehicle license plates. While many speciality plates have destinctive insignias or pictures, Michigan's current Veterans Plates only offer wordage. With the mandating of the individual insignia of each branch of the Military, Michigan will have joined with ALL OTHER States which offer their Veterans this respect via motor vehicle license plates. This bill would also mandate Veterans Plates for motorcycles, something which current policy does not do. The State Senate has a very simular bill, SB214. The Senate bill does not mandate the inclusion of the insignia of the branch of Military. By not doing so the Senate Bill could leave Michigan still lacking in showing equal respect with ALL OTHER States. Hopefully this discrepancy will be ammended prior to the Senate voting on this long past bill.
