This needs to be made retroactive to include all previous legislators who have NOT completed a minimum of ten (10) years of service to the state AND apply only to age 65 AND ONLY to the legislator AND taxpayer money would cover no more than 75% of the premium.  Spouse and family would be offered at the group rate but not paid for out of taxpayer money.

It's about time this happened.  Legistlators should not have this perk.  Michigan tax payers pay Legislators good money and we have too many Legislators puting their hands in our pocket books taking our the bills and leaving us with the change.

It is so outrageous that these politicans get FREE full benefits when my husband and I who are over 70, pay well over $500.00 month, and still paying on our home and all the other insurances we have to pay.  He is still working just to make ends meet.  Six years back from 2013 is another slap in the face.  These people vote for us not to be covered just to make sure they are covered.  What a crime.  It should at least go 10 years back and not full health after they retire.  There is not a part time job that gives full benefits anywhere to anyone.  But yet these politicans do not work 8 hours a day 5-6 days a week.  Why should they get them?

A small step in the right direction. Now lets set term limits and part-time legislators. (since they work most of the time on re-election not for the people )

I knew there must be something we agreed on.

Today, I'm embarrassed to be from Michigan.  I pride myself on being a conservative, hard-working person, and I try to always do the right thing.  Sometimes the "right thing" is difficult to define, but in this case it is not.  Ending post-retirement benefits is cleary a solid first step, but grandfathering yourselves in is an outright travesty.  The notion of "shared sacrifice" is a farce.  Good luck looking at yourselves in the mirror and going to sleep at night, Jase Bolger and others ... I know I couldn't.

Wow.  So the message is clear:  State legislators want cushy 'retirement' benefits while the rest of the state is in the worst financial condition in its history.  Hey, here's another idea:  since you seem to love your own financial gain at the expense of the poorest among us, how about we find ways to make the destitute pay even AFTER you have stopped their welfare or unemployment checks?  Since you seem bent on giving yourselves big benefits while passing legislation that puts a lifetime limit on state welfare, how about we make this growing group of permanently unemployed people pay more money at every turn?  I can forsee a 'pay as you go' tax for everyone on a public street.  How about a 'Sit in a park, pay me NOW' tax?  And lets not forget a 'You are unable to feed or wash your kids, and I am uncomfortable.. so pay a TAX' tax.  That way, we can make sure the permanently unemployed are paying their fair share of your retirement health coverage for your 4 or 8 long years of service, which you so clearly deserve.

In all honesty, I am stunned that so many of you are so deplorable.  I am not sure I can ever vote for any of you again.  Please email me as I requested on the phone Sean McCann.  If you do not have a good explanation, I'm afraid you will have a tough time getting my support in the future.

will it ever end, really? i mean do they think everyone in the 99% are that stupid? i actually liked the two people i voted for in the house and senate but this yes vote by them is unbelievable..i will send them both an email or maybe even a snail mail to get their reasoning for their yes votes but i am having a hard time rationalizing democratic values..token oppositon is at least the moral thing to do..welcome to more dirt thrown on the poor and middle class...a change will come hopefully sooner than later....the uprising will come and it usually is a small incident that starts everything rolling..maybe the wall street protest? i can only pray..let your reps know your disgust and when it comes time to vote..do it..

Vote all of those rubber stamper's of Snyder Spiders legislation out of office and start from scratch.  The legislators health care must go.  They shouldn't get any health care untill they have severed eight years.

Firstly, a health care reform should set and acquire the medium and long term objective of reducing disease rates. A healthier population is a population invested in with prevention and awareness raising campaigns. As long as you make people acknowledge the risks they fail to see around them, you`ll improve their lives. Health care centers` programs should more easily reach people by media, so as for everyone who needs assistance to contact cardio services, psychological services, drug rehab Sacramento CA or other rehabilitation medical services. A proper and thorough health care reform should harvest great results in less than 10 years, reflected in statistics.

Moreover, people who retire from the work field for one to many reasons, should have all their health care costs covered for the rest of their lives, as a basic right of all citizens that have worked and payed fees and tax to the country they belong to. It`s no such thing as one having to cover himself for some teleradiology medical tests or medical investigation of other nature, since he has been contributing to the public budget by paying fees. Of course, there`s always the alternative of running tests to a private clinic, but it is only a matter of your own choice, apart from some fundamental citizenship rights.

I do not understand why you would stop their health insurance here. They did their service and should get from them on. Not sure what they are trying to do here. Alpha Controls

House Bill 4087: End retired legislator health benefits. Passed 37-1 in the Senate. To end the post-retirement health care insurance coverage provided to legislators, but only for those who have not completed at least six years in the legislature by Jan. 1, 2013. Reportedly, this means 36 out of 38 senators would still get the benefits, plus 14 out of 109 currently in the House. Under current law, former legislators who have served six years get full health coverage beginning at age 55.

Senate Bill 644: Shift business tax break/subsidy dollars. Passed 35-3 in the Senate. To authorize using money appropriated for the “21st Century Jobs Fund” business subsidy program to instead pay for the corporate and real estate developer subsidies proposed by Senate Bill 567.

People should have all their health care costs covered even they retire from the work field. This is a basic right of all citizens that have payed fees and tax to the country. It is no such thing as one having to cover himself for some nighthawk radiology medical tests or medical investigation since he has been contributing to the medical public budget. Am I right?
