Are they Ever going to reinstate the good time previously taken away in the 80's? that alone would clear out some space and cut the buget of the D.O.C.

If the prisons are overcrowded, instead of cutting out quality of food, and medical care, why not give incentives for good time to prisoners who are remorseful for their crimes & working on being a better citizen instead of always taking away from the prisoners because of the budget. Medicad & Welfare recipients are treated better than prisoners & they are government assisted also. Don't stop putting criminials in jail/prison for their crimes. Give the incentives to the people who are already doing their time & learning the respect of good time earned proving they can be law/rule abiding. Growing budgets eliminate the respect to treat prisoners as humans.

Prisoners are being over sentenced in michigan, if you have a good institution record while being in prison and servering time, We should have good time for men and women.  Something to work towards in prison is being able to control yourself, while being locked up and when time comes to be released you now how to cope with being on the outside world. My Fiance was sentenced 30-50 years for second degree murder thirteen years ago, sentenced as habitual offender, never as had any major misconduct, tickets or been in to any fights. This is a man that deserves another chance out side those gates, ever one deserves a second chance but not a third or forth. During his trial there were alot of things not brought out, from his attorney or the prosecution, that would have been in his favor. So lets try to get Good Time back into our Michigan Prisons, Please vote on this bill on Change.org. Thank You.  This is the year 2011-2012

I agree with giving our prisoners time off for good behavior during their incarceration. That's what rehab is all about  - our incarcerated men and women changing their thinking and behavior for themselves, society and their families. Please listen to our pleas and change Michigan Law and authorize good time off for prisoners.  Thanks so much for listening.

First of all, in this day and age with Sentencing Guidelines, there is no over sentencing in Michigan.  If anything, there is under sentencing.  If he was given 30 to 50 years, it was a nasty case.  Second, your fiance should not have any major misconducts or minor misconducts.  Third, he killed someone.  The public has to be protected.  The State of Michigan has a program to help prepare prisoners for release in the outside world.  If he is placed on parole, the parole officer and the staff involved in the MPRI program, if it is still around, will assist him.

Do the words "Habitual Offender" mean anything to you?  How long have you known your "fiance"?  Did you meet him through the computer or mail?

First of all know I didn't meet him threw mail or the computer. Second of all there is always to sides to a story. There have been innocent people every day being sentenced, for crimes they didn't commit, in this cases this is what has happen.  Your next repely is you probably here this alot.  And I have known him for quite some time like twenty years or more, and I know he didn't do this. But Thanks for your comment. Thats why are taxes are so high taking care of people who should be home working not in prison. Thanks Again.

You must not have ever sat in the Washtenaw County court  house. As I sat there waiting for the sentencing of the man I love, I saw over 20 cases plead out because the public defenders office does not want to take cases to trial. That is exactly was my man was told, sorry no money to fight your case even though you would probably be acquitted. Well we don't have the money to retain an attorney so he was stuck with a plead deal. Now serving 3-10. Good time would allow him to come home sooner. This bill needs to pass. There are way to many people in prison who really do not belong there or have paid their dues and deserve to have a life outside.

As an ex-felon I can tell you that you know absolutely nothing about sentencing guidelines!  Those guidelines are used any way  that the PROBATION DEPARTMENT wants to use the numbers!!  It is the probation department that figures those numbers.  I have seen it happen where two different people, that did the same crime, it was their first time, and because the probation officer didn't like the way one sat in her chair, she got twice the time as the other.  Guidelines and  truth-in-sentencing are HUGE errors.  People make mistakes.  The criminal and the person deciding the criminals life.  Numbers have nothing to do with humans.

I cannot find the house bill 6330, anyways I believe good time needs to come back. It is easy for anyone that doesn't have a loved one locked to say they deserve what they get but when you find yourself in the situation of a loved one locked up you when then why it is so important to the ones that currently going through it. It can happen to anyone. I pray to the dear lord above that the good time comes back. Also my husband got charged with armed robbery with absolutely no evidence. What ever happened to innocent til proven guilty. It is wrong to charge someone with something when there is no evidence and just goes by word of mouth. I have been told in the past that the devil works in deguise and I believe it now, government needs to open their hearts and see the good in alot of these inmates and give them the goodtime they deserve and also drop charges when there was never no evidence.
