You are out of touch with what is going on with the people of Michigan. You are just plain stupid to think that we can afford to pay more taxes on anything. You guys have blown all of our tax money on whatever you want to and you keep trying to get more from us.

I propose that instead of this idea of yours, that you propose a 25% decrease in your pay. This should save a substantial amount of OUR money.

And just where do these idiots think the taxpayers are going to get the money to pay these extra taxes?? We desperately need to 'clean house' in Lansing-and get these socialist tax-mongers out of there!

    No.

And we do not need to raise state level fuel taxes, either.

If additional revenue is needed (and it certainly is) to run the state and maintain infrastructure, we should raise the income tax rate.  Better yet, amend the Michigan Constitution to allow a steeply graduated income tax, and impose it.

I agree completely. Taxing ones income at a graduated rate is the fairest way to increase revenue.

Graduated income taxes are a good way to scare away anybody with 2 nickels to rub together. See New Jersey for an example.

Not that Michigan hasn't been doing that for 40+ years now.

And what in Hades is fair about differential tax rates? Someone automatically becomes evil when they make too much money?

Michgan does not have a graduted income tax rate.  And the flat rate is low.  Still, people have left the state in droves during recent years.  Your theory is a well-debunked myth.

And what in Hades is evil about paying your fair share in taxes?
