We continue to prove that there is no actuial interest in making Michigan schools succeed.  This bill is sheer idiocy !   The appointed finacial manager is there becasue the local district has proved itself incapable of making decisions to save a dfistrict..  they FAILED and created the emergency for which the manager has been appointed.

Let the emergency manager do the job without continuing to tie their hands and have them beholden to the people who FAILED in the first place.

STOP LEGISLATING ONLY FOR DETROIT !!!!!!!!

You have got to see that this is idiocy.   THis legislation is only directed as a personal attack in Detroit on the emergency financial manager of DPS.  However, when additional school districts hit the emergency finacial mess in the coming year, the restrictions and lunacy will apply to them.   By legislating for the state on the basis of Detroit,  we have nasty impacts for Schoolcraft,  Ubly,  Crawford-Au Sable....  where these restrictions become a penalty and result in making it worse.

Thank you Shanelle for caring about the students in the City of Detroit.  I admire your stance in the midst of opposition to do what is best for the children and not the power-mongers.  Our children deserve the best--quality education and an environment in which to receive it.  When voters elect who they want in office to make decisions, the will of the people should not be overlooked, unless there is a serious problem with the decisions that will ultimately be detrimental for ALL involved.  Being in a position to make decisions for others is not always an easy task, but those in leadership (elected by the people for the people) should be given opportunity to make those hard decisions without intereference from someone who was appointed to do one thing, but decides to take-over everything else.  Take-over mentalities have a history of being detrimental to the masses (Hitler, Castro, Ben Ladin, etc.).  We do not need anyone in a position to make decisions for children with a "take-over" mentality.  We need someone in position to fight for the rights of the children and to force greater parental involvement in the lives of their children.  Nothing will ever change in Detroit, until parents take their rightful place on the front-line--in their homes, in the community, and in the schools.

Wonder how many of Jackson's relatives are board members of failing schools?  From what I've read, Bobb is doing a good job of ridding  DPS of the corruption that's been going on for years.  Nothing like having a board president who can't READ!  Where are all the missing computers?  Guess a few of the board members decided they needed new ones to play video games on at home.
