    2010 Senate Bill 1135 (Increase renaissance zones )

    Introduced in the Senate on February 10, 2010, to clarify language in a 2008 statute allowing up to 35 "tool and die renaissance recovery zones." The zones allow generous tax breaks for these types of firms

    The vote was 36 in favor, 0 opposed and 2 not voting

    I am all for making thing more friendly for business in this state.  Why must we target it toward specific industries, or specific zones?  How is that fair?  What about other perfectly legitimate businesses who end up effectively subsidising these "chosen" businesses?  This state needs a competitive but level playing field for companies already here, and those we seek to attract.

     

    This is a little bit too "hands-on", for my tastes.  Pass one set of tax laws for every company to live or die by, make it as attractive as possible, and let the chips fall where they may.
