This proposed legislation begs one to ask, "why"?  To what end, just to harass citizens, or because the expensive computer systems do not work and a few fines are slipping between the cracks.  Given the cost of motor vehicles today, even the most minor accident would result in $1000 in property damage.   This representative must like long lines at the SoS offices, or feels that given the unemployment situation, residents of Michigan have nothing better to do than stand in lines.

Focus on important work - like re-building the econmy in the State, not innane legislation.

Ridiculous.  I fail to see the purpose in this proposal.

Furthermore, whatever happened to the concept of protections against self-incrimination provided by the Fifth Amendment to the US Constitution and Article I, Section 17 of the Michigan Constitution?

Do we give up all rights of citizenship when we drive a motor vehicle?

What is this need for overwhelming beaurocracy? We have closed many Sec of State offices so getting to them is difficult. Now, you want someone whose vehicle is incapacitated (and who may be incapacitated themselves) to be forced to 'appear' at the Sec of State office, often many miles away, just to satisfy some perceived need to intrude on citizen's privacy, time and money in one more way! This is bullpuckey of the highest order!

Its interesting how the insurance industry is determined to take your money

lets say 5 million drivers times average insurance policy $800 every six months

equals $4,000,000,000  Dollars !!!  Every six months !!  people of the state

of Michigan should be absolutely incensed!!  Repeal the vehcile insurance law of

1972 and put an end to this garbage.  Now figure that out since 1972.  Insurance is

fillthy rich living of the interest and now they want MORE !1 MORE and even MORE!!

If you people are smart you will call your legislator asap and not to vote for this

worthless bill.  Because look how broke we are and how rich insurance industry is.

Don't the police already report accidents and tickets to the SOS???  Why the need for citizens to also report on themselves?  It sounds like lawmakers feel the need for constituents (subjects?) to bend to their "authority" over them.  Here's a news flash: THEY work for US...THEIR job is to serve US...WE have the power to fire THEM (unless we let them take away that right too)...stand up to these bullies and let them know that unless they start serving US, they will be out of a job next election.

i agree with this being dumb. but your forgetting who wants this pushed through, yes the insurance co.  so myself i will be calling my rep. sen. and house to tell them so. when you get pulled over for any reason the officer ask you for your proof of ins. so we all know what is going on here another way to take money out of the honest mans pocket.  also all of you reading this should know about another stupid bill. senate bill #1074.  this bill gives the state of mi. to force our schools to outsource the cafeteria, bussing and janitorial.  i have worked in a school that had outsourced to a company called chartwells.  trust me you dont want the state that cant figure out what to do about our jobs economy ect. much less let private corporations from other states take over our schools.  bussing will be the first to go.  i have inside info. if you care call your senator and say NO.
