It would be nice if Public School employees would make the same sacrifice in wages and benefits as we who pay theirs did, but as long as the MEA has total control of Lansing and thumbs their nose at the taxpayer this house bill stands no chance.

I totally agree with this, but I doubt it will pass.  Many in the private sector have greatly suffered under the economic woe's, unlike those working under the corporate government.

Our children's education is our hope for the future. A good education requires we hire the best and pay them competitively. What about collective bargaining agreements? Is education where we want to cut back on quality? Not in my opinion.

Good teachers should earn competitive compensation.  Bad teachers should be fired.  In my experience the amount of pay has little to do with the quality of the education.

Cut teacher pay without negotiations (although it takes over 5 years for most teachers to earn as much as an unskilled factory worker), while benefits are being cut/decreased or increased in expense, and watch this 60 hr. a week profession go down the tubes.  No one will want to work it.  You may want gold standard teachers at bargain basement prices, but I do not think this is what you will get.  Who would want to go into debt over 30,000 dollars to make less than they can make without going to school at all?  Come on people....it's a five year degree.
