Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
You people are certifiably insane! You are advocating a bunch of dubious 'environmental' programs and indoctrinating children in your new Gaia religion rather than teaching them to read, write and cypher. Sorry, but MY kids do NOT need to be pushing YOUR agenda! This is not school - it's closer to Hitler Youth! And, if you think recycling paper is 'green', you obviously dont know one darned tbing about the environmental hazards produced from the chemicals used to recycle a product that will bio-degrade. Furthermore, no school has any right to do any 'energy audit ' of MY HOME!! I dont doubt this crap comes from the Feds and I suggest you pass the 10th amendment resolution in BOTH houses and tell them to BUTT OUT!

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
The indoctrination of children by the state is an idea that plays into President Obama's "cap and trade" legislation to tax every conceivable aspect of our energy use. The bad part of it is that it does not produce one more BTU nor does it add to the welfare of our communities. In fact it is supposed to bring "social justice" which is a euphemism for "spread the wealth around" visa vi "Joe the Plumber" from those who by their own initiative have created it to those who by their own insolence are dependent. All this hot air by "green politicians" should be focused on building new nuclear power plants rather than elimination of so-called greenhouse gases, one of which is simply water vapor! Nuclear power plants will create jobs and empower the communities in which they are built. Forget for the time being the mirage of "free power" through windmills and solar panels. We have now the technologies for energy which have proven themselves over the decades. America is driven by energy and those who advocate controlling carbon dioxide are blowing smoke in our faces.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
Gee, you two, calm down. Sure, the kids may not be able to read when they graduate, their knowledge of history will be strictly limited and carefully manipulated, and numbers will be beyond their comprehension. There may not be any jobs for them to get in Michigan anyway, particularly with the "skyrocketing" energy costs President Obama hopes to bring about (the economy thrives on CHEAP energy). But think how nice and meekly they'll submit to the environmentally-correct hardships Washington, D.C., will impose upon us all.
Remember when the college kids of the '60s demanded that we "QUESTION AUTHORITY"? Well, they're all grown up now and they're in control; questioning authority is a no-no. First they came for our toilets, demanding that they use less water. We submitted fairly meekly. Then they came for our faucets, demanding that THEY dispense less water. We complained quietly. Now they want our light bulbs and our gasoline-powered automobiles (not to mention complete control of our health care, our financial institutions, and heck, your pay itself).
YOU will protest (and be placed on Homeland Security's Watch List). Your children will submit meekly, knowing that CO2 is a pollutant and will result in the end of the planet as we know it. If the education establishment succeeds sufficiently, your children will turn you in to the authorities if you turn the heat up in the winter or the air conditioning down in the summer.
And all will be well in the land.
The noble environmentalists cleaned up our air (so clean that I've even read that the darned clean air is contributing to global warming/climate change, because clean air lets the sun shine through) and they've cleaned up our water. Global cooling and the coming Ice Age fizzled. The population boom and subsequent planetary starvation went nowhere. They were left to seek other environmental projects, lest their jobs be done and they be forced to find real, productive professions.
Lo, they found CO2 is higher than it was...sometime in the past. Aha! It must be the reason the globe was warming for a few years there (immediately following the Global Cooling and the Coming Ice Age). And how hard will it be to eliminate CO2 from the air?!! They are guaranteed projects for years to come, and it is necessary that the children be indoctrinated to accept all that is necessary to "clean up the CO2 pollution." Yes, people are actually referring to CO2 as "pollution in the air" which must be stopped. I've even heard that the "pollution" is causing breathing problems! The hard work of the environmentalist wackos is paying off.
The schools are merely doing their job, just as the current crop of politicians demand. Quiet down, support your schools with your tax dollars, and accept your newly-formed environmentally-correct children.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
Is it the proper role of government to be legislating in this area? I don't think so! There are plenty of other issues to deal with. Why is Mr. Garcia (my State Senator) farting around in this area. Hey, wait a minute, perhaps he can initiate legislation that will award "green" certificates whenever a citizen "holds it in" rather than "passes gas." This would help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Good thing that Senator Garcia is term limited.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
No, no, don't forget about the "free power" of windmills. There are plans afoot to install those clean little electricity generators IN LAKE MICHIGAN. Friends who live on the shore of Lake Michigan are looking forward to a view filled with those miracles of nature.
Those who prefer plain ol' water in their line of sight are simply selfish, just like that nasty Senator Ted Kennedy was, all for clean energy except when it affects their view (remember how Teddy stopped construction of windmills in his ocean). No, Lake Michigan will look much more natural with those tall, bird-killing symbols of our eco-conscious energy quest standing tall in the water. And there is little hope any mere landowner can stop the project.
Maybe, in the spirit of friendliness and conciliation, legislators will put big smiley faces on the blades of those windmills. This will surely make all the landowners and tourists smile in return. Or not.
Well, at least if windmills are erected in the lake, no CO2 absorbing trees will have to be destroyed to make way for them. THAT might be hard to justify.

Agreed!! Government has no business in making up local school curriculums or doing these kinds of things.

I run the recycling program at my kids' school. I think it's important, if not vital, that young people appreciate the Earth's resources and begin their lives knowing that they will not last forever, nor can we continue to pollute the atmosphere without regard for the future existance of life on this planet.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
Recycling is one thing, teaching them that the breath they exhale is full of "dirty" CO2 is quite another. That CO2 helps to feed the plants; in return, the plants manufacture oxygen, which enables animal life to thrive--or even exist. Teach them THAT. Teach them that there's symbiosis in our relationship with plant life.
Then, if there's any time left over, teach them to read, write, perform a little math, maybe understand a little science.
Teach them that our industries have cleaned up our air so well that the Global Warmists tell us that the clean air is contributing to Global Warming because now more sun reaches the earth [imagine that, the Global Warmists acknowledge that the sun plays a (teeny, tiny) part in Earth's temperatures!]. Then show them pictures of China and India, where you can actually see the air. Tell them that, because of our wealth and superior technology, we are better able to care for our environment than those poor countries do. Tell them they owe it to the planet to LEARN all that they can, in order to better care for Earth.
Teach them history, so that they might know that the Founding Fathers never intended that the federal government control every aspect of our lives, even down to how much water our faucets and toilets may use.
Teach them the difference between fact and propaganda.
There IS more to life than recycling, or even properly inflating our tires.
Teach them all of those things and maybe, just maybe, they'll grow up to remember you as their best teacher. What an honor that would be.

Recycling is a hoax. Google " Eight Great Myths about Recycling" by Jane Shaw. Did you know that Waste Management is building landfills that generate power? It is so beautiful that no one wil know it is a landfill. Please stop misguiding our children.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
Our schools have become little more than a propaganda arm of the far left. Our kids cant compete in he basics: reading, math, composition, science. Yet we spend time, much money and valuable resources indoctrinating them in the quasi-science of 'green'. Many children are so convinced of questionable and outright false 'science' that it is damaging their mental health. This MUST stop! The public must realize that legislatures have heavily invested our tax dollars and future wealth in carbon-trading schemes from which many of them willl personally profit at the expense of the consumer. All opf this is simply an effort to 'build concensus' in future generations for the theft of their freedoms and money!

I wonder if the Senator will be as proud when the first kid buys it while checking air in the tires on buses.....

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 904 (Revise "green schools" criteria )
Gosh, truckingal, what good will reading, writing and 'rithmetic do the kids if the oceans are rising, storms are getting more violent, the poles are melting, and the Polar bears are dying?? Once we have this climate thing under control, the kids (by then oldsters) can return to school and learn those basics. Assuming the teachers who are then graduating have mastered any of those subjects. By then McDonalds will be allowing their employees to take sabbaticals, I'm sure, so they'll have the time.
Especially encouraging is the fact that the kids, having been propagandized, are then instructed to lobby our government for... whatever. Obama and ACORN could wish for no more than that. Hopefully the kids will learn to actively protest, too, perhaps by watching video from the '60s showing mindless crowds destroying private property in the name of "peace." Some of them can be trained to hang around outside polling places brandishing billy clubs in order to be sure that the voters vote "right."
Yes, we should definitely pour more dollars into our education system so that the kids can learn to accept a much less comfortable lifestyle than their [greedy, self-indulgent] parents enjoyed before the primacy of the collective became the law of the land.
And yes, I'm being facetious. It would be very nice if teachers put as much energy into teaching kids to read as they do teaching them environmental correctness. Maybe it's time to investigate what's being emphasized in our schools of education.
