This is a step in the right direction Michigan, as far as State restrictions go.  But we have to pass HCR004/SCR004 in the Michigan Legislature to reassert our 10th Amendment rights over our out-of-control Federal Government.  Also, HR 1207/S 604 to bring the unconstitutional central bank, the Federal Reserve, under the supervision of Congress.

The Congressional Budget Office has said in its analyses of the various bills before Congress and the US Sentate that the bills containing a government health plan would result in some people losing their private insurance. This would either be because lower-cost, high deductible plans would be legislated out of existence or coverage mandates would rule existing plans as "insuffiicient" coverage, even if the policy holders are happy with them.

A public option would also have government backing, and even if it is intended to be self-sufficient, it would merely be the latest in a long line of "self-sufficient" government-backed operations, like Amtrak, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, to be guaranteed a bailout if they continuously operate at a loss. Insurance companies may be able to lower costs, but they cannot compete with a company capable of operating at a loss continuously without the fear of going out of business. It is much more likely that a public "option" would overrun the market, leaving it as basically the only option left - basically, what happened with Medicare.

We could call the Bush administration fiscally responsible - that wouldn't make it so. Putting "option" on the name for a government-run health insurance company doesn't guarantee its status as one, either.

In economics, a public "option" is necessarily equated to a monopoly which gets revenues using coercion (taxes). There is not one market that the government is involved in that does anything to promote choice, competition, and lower prices (price fixing and subsidies do not count). They necessarily reduce the number of options and eventually leave one -- the public "option".

Eventually, our nation will wake up to the fact that the most effective way to guarantee access to high quality healthy care services for all citizens is to expand Medicare so everyone is covered.

Medicare is not a free ride program for those enrolled in it.  The current premium is around $100 a month ($96.40, to be exact) for each enrollee.  It is well received and gets high performance marks from those in the program.  Supplemental private insurance, usually at relatively low cost is available.

Private insurance, or self-coverage for those who can afford it never should be "outlawed."  Those options always should be available for people who think it will get them greater bang for their buck.  If there is demand for such services, the market certainly will provide them.

I agree completely with Freespeaker on this matter, and have advocated a medicare buy-in from day one as the simplest and most efficient way to make health care available to everyone. Hopefully the passing of the health insurance reform bill will eventually lead to something resembling a medicare buy-in.

Private insurance should, and I'm quite certain will, be available to those who want it.

In 2007 Obama stated that last night's vote would be a mere stepping stone to what he ultimately wanted and that was a single payer system in which every person either had to have government health care or else pay a fine. He was very clear on this. He also stated it on more than one occasion. People who still believe that he will not shoot for that and will allow people to keep their current health care provider and/or health insurance are talking to the wind because as everyone has already seen, he is ramming it, "chicago style". The phrase "chicago style politics" isn't being bandied around for fun, it is a moniker that carries some weight and it is time, past time, that people begin paying some attention to it. WE are well on the road to Socialism and that is not hyperbole speaking. And for the record, I am not a republican. The only way they appear to decrease the deficit is because they are going to do away with Medicare. Ever read "1984" by George Orwell? I suggest you get it out, or else "The Giver". They really aren't too far off. Those with health problems are the ones who should be the most worried, or those with a heart. Which Obama doesn't have.

It would be so inconvenient to have government health care, like the Congressmen and women, the military and veterans, and people over 65 do.

If you want to succeed in this life you have to differentiate your personal life from the professional one. When you have to work you should work hard to achieve your goal, but when it comes to rest you should go far away from home and enjoy your vacation well deserved, for instance you can take this year a vacation to start*of*link*reg possible*ad*href="http://www.guest-travel-writers.possible*ad*com*1053/las-vegas-vacation/">las vegas. We can not deny that the health care system should be reformed. Nowadays the importance of public health programs in reducing the incidence of disease is recognized. Although I believe that the health care should be free, meaning that we can choose to do or not an insurance, to choose an insurance which is suitable to our needs, the Government demands its population to pay for it. It's like Russian roulette, which is for everyone, not just for gamblers.
