No more legislation! Farmers have been properly taking care of their animals without excessive government intervention for decades - butt out!

On the surface this may seem like excessive regulation - but read the bill.  This bill will absolutely PROTECT livestock farmers from animal rights nuts who want to destroy the livestock industry.  It gives the Ag department full authority to promulgate standards, which is significant because it will prevent HSUS and PETA petition drives for voter initiatives to implement so-called "humane" standards (as per the unscientific opinions of these animal rights groups who published goals are to eliminate ALL livestock agriculture).  We are far better off with the protection of the Ag department than allowing politically motivated and radical vegan groups to set policy based on their opinions and not normal standards of animal husbandry.  The standards that will be implemented are specifically listed in the bill and are not unreasonable or onerous.  Additionally, this bill will supercede any local regulations that would restrict livestock care practices to those designed by radical, anti-farming groups.  It also states clearly that standard animal husbandry practices are considered humane.  This is an excellent bill and much needed to protect the Michigan livestock farmers from unwarranted and emotional attacks of farming by radical groups.

I say all of us farmers need to only sell to other farmers for one year .

We are losing money now so what would we lose?

Or for that matter stop raising livestock for one year and then see if these nuts have a better idea.

Like my farmer buddy says ,why is there more horses asxxx then there is horses.

It looks to me like they have been elected to the Michigan house, that is the horses asxxxs!

Rep. Agema, having reserved the right to explain his protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:

“Mr. Speaker and members of the House:

This is like negotiating with terrorists. They put a gun to your head and say if you don’t sign this something else worse might happen. We are bending to an organization out of fear and giving more regulations to our farmers. A yes vote means you fear something else worse might happen but may not. I don’t believe this is good legislation—too many assumptions.”

Ah yes, Michigan's ag business seems to be doing pretty well, let's see if we can kill that too.
