$20,000 personal injury insurance? Why such a laughably small amount? Who will pay the balance?

    How hypocritical and pathetic.

Our 'leaders' in Lansing will do anything to collect a fistful of dollars; or in this case a helmet full of dollars.

Drop this all together for get it and stop wasting time on it. The truth is if a biker wears a helmet or not does not matter to representatives. It’s the money and how much you would pay, and if this passes and a biker pays, he doesn’t need a helmet anyway because he’s not thinking right. Just remember this at election time, wear your helmet and put a sticker on it that says think before you vote. WE THE PEOPLE not them the representatives the sooner we understand this and let them know, then this state will go in the right direction……Super AngrySuper Angry

People have the right to make bad decisions.

True. But others shouldn't be required to pay for their bad decisions.

Wonder why they don't put that money into a fund to pay for the medical costs of those who opt out of wearing a helmet, after that big 20K insurance is spent?

We have to pay for bad decisions made by others on a regular basis. People who smoke, who over eat and are obese, people who spend too much time in the sun. And those are just the medical bad decisions we all pay for. There's the bad decisions businesses make, and of course, government makes.  We end up paying for all of those. On the upside, we share in the rewards of good decisions, or we should, if life were fair.

I agree the money would be much better spent going into a fund to pay medical cost of those suffering head injuries from motorcycle accidents. As proposed, this just seems like a way to make more money for the state. I'm not denying the state doesn't need more money, but if the issue is the burden these people who want to ride helmetless put on our medical cost, having them contribute to a fund to cover that cost seems more fair, and would help relieve some financial burden on the state also.

Gypsy-I agree with what you say, but why should we add another bad decision choice. Should we eliminate the seat belt and child restraint laws too?
