It sure is comforting to know that our lawmakers have a better understanding of what people will buy than the marketplace itself.  Nobody spends my money better than the government.

Yes, it is. Recent history shows this to be quite true. If GM and Chrysler had listened to certain members of the government back in the 70's, they might not be in the situation they are today.

What we really need is a law against FRAUD in naming bills like this!, calling this a "refundable TAX CREDIT" when in fact it is simply a GRANT, is fraud.

The law says quote; “Refundable means that the state will send a manufacturer a check estimated at $335 million for the amount that the credit exceeds the firm’s tax liability "

Not to mention that any economist can tell you that Michigan DESTROYs more jobs taking the 335 million in taxes, than it creates by giving it to a KOREAN Company!

Not to also mention, so much for the EQUAL Protection under the law provision of the US Constitution, where do Politicians get off discriminating via taxtion?!

Rep. Meekhof, having reserved the right to explain his protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:

“Mr. Speaker and members of the House:

We continue to carve out ‘special’ tax breaks for individual businesses, we need to lower the tax burden on all job providers to enable them to risk and create the new economy.”

Rep. Agema, having reserved the right to explain his protest against the passage of the bill, made the following statement:

“Mr. Speaker and members of the House:

Once again we give tax breaks on the backs of existing companies. We need an equal tax break for all Michigan businesses so we can keep them here.”

Rep Agema, I agree 100%.  The legislature is not an expert on economics and investing.  It should not carve out special promotions for any company or product.  The market will move thing properly.

The market as of late has not "move thing properly" very well.
