So, if we put somebody into office based on what they promise to do-and then they do the exact opposite, you dont want us to be able to toss their sorry butts OUT of office! Sorry, Mikey-just getting elected isnt enough. . .you have to follow through. Otherwise, they'd (you'd) All lie to us all the time!

I thought a public official was a public servant who works for private citizens who elected them, and if the citizens don't like what they are doing, they can replace them. It looks like Sen. Michael Switalski is one of those candidates.

Why is it there is always a (D) behind the name of someone who dreams up these ways to keep their power.  We the people hire them and We the people should be able to fire them with or without cause. 

Incredible. We have,without doubt, the most corrupt governance in US history. The only solution is term limits on all elected officials.

 how can a legislature hope to repeal a right which it has not granted? our rights come from our creator.

 We HAVE term limits in Michigan....Hello????.  Term limits are a significant part of the problem.  Instead of working for constituents to stay in office - the yahoos use the stepping stone to the next adventure.  They are term limited out of office before they even find out where the house or senate post office is located.

Term limits took away accountability.  Instead of term limits we need VOTERS who pay attention - ALL the time - not just in November.

 repealing a law is the business of the legislature. repealing a right is unconstitutional.

 This bill is a perfect example of WHY we need term limits. Opposing just this bill does not address the real problem, elected officials determined to use their official powers to stay in office.

 Every elected official HAS a term of office already.  Elected officials can only stay in power if we elect them...just because voters are too lazy to be educated on issues, too lazy to go to the polls,  or too greedy with personal agendas to vote responsibly folks want "term limits."  Term limits are the lazy way out for voters/citizens.  The lack of legislative experience is especially evident in MICHIGAN -  the problem lies in the unelected bureaucrats (the ones who really run the show).  Your plan does not leave elected officials in office long enough to actually hold those bureaucrats accountable. The ones who have the answer to the people are booted out and the bureaucrats linger on.  We have the government we deserve.  Voter turnout in the November 2008 election was 56.8 percent.  Whoopee....or rather....shame on us.

 this thread is about the right to recall. it is unconstitutional for a legislature to deprive citizens of their rights.

 Lawmakers (at least the elected ones)  are elected to a specific term of office.  Citizens have (and should not lose) the right to recall lawmakers - though difficult to mount enough support - the right is right.  The threat against the right of citizens to recall really has nothing to do with the issues of term limits.  Good point by bugman. 

I'm confused.  Usually I'm a very big fan of Mickey's.  To the surprise of his Republican colleagues, he's the penny-pincher, holding the line on spending.  He's introduced some very good legislation over the years.  But this?  What is the thinking behind this?  Every citizen should take a dim view of ANY proposed law that strips them of a right or freedom!  All voters have had, at one time or another, a bit of "buyer's remorse."  Candidates have said whatever they thought necessary to win and then turned around and stabbed voters in the back.  We The People, who elect them and depend on them to represent US, should retain the right to recall candidates, if necessary.  As others pointed out, it is already not an easy task.  Broad popular support is the only way it can happen, and the only way that comes about is for said candidate to ROYALLY screw up!  (Hear that, Blago?)  This REEKS!
