re-monumentation is determining exactly where a 'corner' is, and verifying if the location of that 'corner' is correct. it pertains to surveying land.

not unless one party or the other thinks that corner is in the wrong place and has been for the last century or so.

State Senator Jelinek, the sponsor of this bill, represents the district that borders Indiana. This money then would go to his district. Some may call that "pork."

    Well, Damn it!

That's my money too. Why do these people think the well is bottomless?

What are we doing? sure $500,000.00 is chump change, right!?

Yes, it is imperative that they highlight the border between Michigan and Indiana so that everyone will be able to see clearly the line that separates the territory governed by idiots from the rest of the country!  With Michigan's deplorable financial condition and astronomical unemployment this expenditure is mandatory to protect the unsuspecting non-resident from wandering into our wasteland. If the governor signs this bill and authorizes this absolute waste of money while the residents of this state suffer, she's a moron!

It seems to me that one of government’s fundamental tasks is to accurately and reliably, survey, map and mark borders and various land division boundaries.  This establishes reference points as a basis for all land surveys that follow.

Over time surveyed boundary markers (monuments) get moved, lost, obscured, etc.  Confirming, reestablishing and documenting the location of monuments – simple maintenance, really -- is an important and basic task.
