Why? Just so GM, Chrysler, & Ford can walk away with more of our money when they go belly-up? I'm driving a 5 year-old vehicle and my husband's is 7 years-old. We have no plans to buy a new vehicle at any time in the next 5 years thanks to politicians such as this who are always giving our money away.

That is a very mis-guided statement.

The bankers and wall-street brokers who CAUSED this economic disaster (along with republican policies)  should get bail out money??

But the hard working people who work for the big 3 or who buy cars from the big 3 shouldnt get some of the bail out money???

Get real !!! Dont blame this ecomonic disaster on the people who WORK for a living and have made this country great.

Why dont you have a problem with giving money to the people who are charlatans and DONT work hard (bankers and wall-street brokers)   yet made a MESS of our economy !!

Is it ok to throw Billions of dollars at those people that RIPPED us off ??

And who says I think giving bailout money to Wall Street and banks is a good thing. Don't put words in my mouth, buddy. I am against all bailouts of any sort. If businesses can't make a profit then, yes, they should declare bankruptcy, reorganize, and get on with business. But no bailouts. I am sick and tired of our Federal and State governments trying to micromanage things which they have no knowledge of. Our Legislative branch is to make laws...not mess around in the economy. Our Executive branch is to uphold those laws...not try to make law. Every time the politicians in Washington, DC and Lansing get it into their heads to "fix' the economy things only get worse. Maybe you weren't around in the late 70s to early 80s, TrueBlue, but I was and it wasn't a great time to be looking for a job. It took this country 10 to recover then and I'm figuring it will be another 10 years before our economy fully recovers from this last fiasco and I blame it all on Congress...both Democrats and Republicans. If they hadn't meddled with all of their "we have to create fairness" enactments and entitlements we wouldn't be in the situation we are currently in. The tax-paying, working people of this country will bear the brunt as usual but the politicians will never accept the blame.

You are correct, you did not state that. My appologies for that.

But my point is that I think its better to help out  hard working Americans and the companies that literally gave this country the middle class rather than to give billions to people who DONT work. (Bankers and wall-street brokers) who caused this mess.

"billions to people who DONT work. (Bankers and wall-street brokers) who caused this mess." Please include the self-serving politicians and I'll wholeheartedly agree with you, TrueBlue. The problem with giving bailouts to the Big 3 is that the workers won't be helped. Did you see where Caterpillar is laying off another 2500 workers on top of the 22,000 that have already lost their jobs? No bailout for Cat so why should the Big 3 get special treatment? This crisis has led to a necessary reorganization which the government should have left alone. We are not a nation of producers anymore and we haven't been since the 80s. This has been taught in Macroeconomics for over 2 decades but apparently everyone in business and government missed those courses....or slept through them. While the Federal Government is trying to social engineer the economy they forget that fact. It will only get worse before it gets better and Michigan is going to be hard hit. Probably harder than most other States that have led the way in technology and non-industrial businesses.

cutting taxes would help them, but you won't do that.

Another elected sales rep. If he doesn’t get reelected, this bill would surly get him a job at a dealership. Unemployment is over 11% and that’s not counting the ones that gave up. So I am sure everybody is looking to buy a new car when there having trouble putting gas in the car they own. Try cutting the gas tax the state gets at the pumps, people then would have more money to spend. You are not employed by the auto dealers you are employed by the people of Michigan. Give a rebate on something everyone would gain from. Instead of this work try working on a bill that will give people confidence that there job wont be sent out of state, and bring new jobs to Michigan. Start thinking all about the people that elected you, that include the unemployed and people who cant afford a new car
