More preferences - why only for low income children? Why is it not necessary for all children and if not why?

Once again it's all about the money.

Smaller classes equal more classrooms, more teachers and staff, more money for the MEA and more members of the MEA to boot.

You got it all wrong. There's no added money attached to this proposal for public schools. What it would mean would be larger class sizes for grades 4-12. There would be fewer classes taughts at those grades so that there could be more (existing) teachers for grades K-3. Class sizes have been going up in our district while staff numbers have been going down. I doubt that we are the exception to the rule.

This is a bad idea in these economic times.
