Oh yes, another way to try to bankrupt the State of MI. ANYONE imprisoned has made wrong choices in their lives and if they didn't commit that crime they committed another one.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
wrongful imprisonment is a state crime. let it be punished as such. jail the people who committed the crime and let the CIVIL LAWSUIT CHIPS fall where they may.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
The description of this bill provided by MichiganVotes is
erroneous.
SB 167 actually addresses coverage of contraceptives in
health insurance packages. It has
nothing to do with authorizing compensation for wrongful imprisonment. (Unless you want to make a case that
unintended pregnancy is a form of wrongful imprisonment. But that would be a true stretch.)

Andrea, you are so wrong with your statement. Some times people are accused of a crime they did not committ or have knowledge of. It happens all the time.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
My question towards this issue is: If a person is wrongfully accused of a crime and must post a bond, who is responsible for returning the amount of that bond? You can not sue the prosecutor or the police department. Where is the alternative? The innocent person might just as well hand the cost of the bond to a stranger on the street.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
the bond is a surety policy to make sure you show up at court.
it usually has nothing to do with guilt or innocence, but attendance. it's only really COLLECTED when you don't show up. but the fee is still NOT REFUNDABLE. kind of like car insurance.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
Thank you for your reply. I do understand what the bond is. My issue is that if the person that is accused of a crime has to pay bond (percentage non-refundable) and is found not quilty or charges are dismissed due to the prosecutor finding evidence that the person accused is innocent and does not go to court, that person does not receive restitution for the amount of bond it cost him from those that accused him or her including the prosecutor and peace officers. Some one should be responsible for the sum of the cash posted for the bond when wrongly accused. As I stated that person may as well hand their money over to a stranger and call it a lose due to being wrongly accused and case dismissed.

Re: 2009 Senate Bill 167 (Authorize wrongful imprisonment compensation )
i believe that each and every person responsible for a wrongful imprisonment should be imprisoned themselves for at least as long as the wrongful sentence.
THEN the civil actions should be able to be started to recover what was wrongly taken from you.

we understand the description of the bill is erroneous. there is nothing we can do about it from our end. you don't have to keep on repeating the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over.
you confuse RE-ITERATING MY VIEWS with repetition.
by the way there are a few OTHER bills with bad descriptions... looks like a job for the moderators...

and just for the record, you have not spoken of your opinion of either.
do you think that wrongful imprisonment should go unpunished?
do you think that mandating contraceptives in private healthcare insurance is the pervue of the government of this state?
if people want contraceptives provided in their insurance policy, all they have to do is ask. so far, no one is asking. why is the state?

i thought that this bill was about prescription plans paying for contraceptives, which i think is a great idea. i know that health care doesnt like to pay for health prevention i.e pregnancy but maybe they should concider the alternative.
