sometimes a gun is JUST TOO MUCH FORCE.

as of now, tasers are illegal. they are the best choice in LESS THAN LETHAL encounters. this bill gives the citizen the CHOICE of a less than lethal response to any situation while also leaving open the option to provide lethal force should it become necessary. police in thousands of cities are carrying tasers.

it's good enough for them, but not good enough for a citizen of michigan?

once again. it's not the job of the government to say how, when, where, or even IF the citizen goes armed to protect himself.

michigan constitution,  article 1. Sec. 6.

Every person has a right to keep and bear arms for the defense of himself and the state.

and while we are at it...

why not let EVERY CITIZEN carry a weapon of their own choosing to defend themselves?

or several... if they so choose.

what does the government have to fear from law abiding citizens? all the doom and gloom predicted from this state over the concealed carry laws has NOT come to pass. none of it came true. so let's move on. the experiment worked, it's time to restore the rights of EVERY CITIZEN, not just those with state issued permits, TO BE ARMED.

There are times when lethal force my be justified but non-lethal force would do the job.  It seems that is why police officers carry tasers.  No one wants to kill someone if it can be avoided.  This bill should be passed.

     so true.

give citizens the choice of carrying a less than lethal device AS WELL AS a firearm.

For personal defence, I can carry a gun which is capable of lethal force.  It makse sence that I should also be allowed to carry a taser for personal defence - a weapon that is capable of less-than lethal force.

it also makes sense, seeing as since both constitutions expressly permit KEEPING AND BEARING ARMS FOR DEFENSE, that we should be able to keep them and bear them WITHOUT PERMITS.

What the well dressed anarchist will wear this year in fashion.

A concealed pistol of course, never out of fashion. 9mm prefered, but 45's or 44's will suffice. Never wear a 38 as your main weapon of defense, only as an accessory.

And this year, all the rage is a taser. Less lethal of course than the pistol, but so fashionable. Great for those times when you really don't want to deal with blood stains.

And why, you might ask, is all this weaponry needed? Well, everyone else is wearing it. You wouldn't ever want to get into a dispute over a parking space without your weapons. Not fashionable at all.

    jmangan:

What the well dressed anarchist will wear this year in fashion.

<you have the wrong idea about anarchy. armed citizens are not anarchists, they are bastions of law and order. all they ask is that you obey the law and maintain order. the criminal on the other hand epitomizes the 'I HAVE NO KING' philosophy so prevalent in anarchy. the only thing you dislike is our willingness to force compliance upon the criminal.>

A concealed pistol of course, never out of fashion. 9mm preferred, but 45's or 44's will suffice. Never wear a 38 as your main weapon of defense, only as an accessory.

<i personally prefer the .45. have for years. the reason? THEY DON'T MAKE A 46. i carried a 38 for years in law enforcement. by the way. it's okay for a cop to carry and use a taser, but not a law abiding citizen? who are you out to proect? us or them?>

And this year, all the rage is a taser. Less lethal of course than the pistol, but so fashionable. Great for those times when you really don't want to deal with blood stains.

<or the attorneys, or the A.C.L.U. or the bleeding hearts.>

And why, you might ask, is all this weaponry needed? Well, everyone else is wearing it. You wouldn't ever want to get into a dispute over a parking space without your weapons. Not fashionable at all.

<you also don't want to get into a dispute about your money. or your life. or the sexual favors of your spouse and children. all these happen daily. if they DIDN'T, we wouldn't NEED to go about our business armed. YOU may feel comfortable with the theory that the police are there to help you, but i can tell you from many years in law enforcement, there's never a cop around when YOU need one. now, i have had hundreds of cases of citizens defending themselves and i've never had a problem with it. in fact, they are more likely to be actually defending themselves than some of the 'new breed' of cops on the street today. this is coming from someone who has worked in the field, and trained cops for a living. i've also trained my share of civilians. the civilians have the right idea. 'leave me alone and i'll leave you alone.' you don't get that from the criminals or the rogue cops.>

I'm still amazed at how anyone with enough spare cash to buy a computer and get internet access can become anyone or anything they want.

Interesting response to crazycajun by jmangan.  I guess when you don't have anything factual to say you can always go for a personal attack.

I try to match facts with facts. When there aren't any facts to match, just macho posturing and tall tales of imagined valor, it's a free shot.
