This bill could have some very bad consequences.  I'm thinking of the new firearms designed for women, some of which come in bright colors, such as hot pink!  Under this law, anything but a black, blued steel or nickel firearm might be considered an attempt to make it look like a toy.  I do agree with the spirit of this law, however, and suggest that it be worded to specify the exact nature of such an attempt.  In short, the current law says that toy guns must have a bright orange colored muzzle.  Therefore the bill should outlaw painting or coloring the muzzle of a real gun in the same manner.  This will avoid confusion, and other law enforcement agencies and divisions from branding any unconventionally colored firearm illegal.

     HEY STU...

    what confusion...

any gun real, toy, or otherwise, pointed at a cop is always met with the same response... point a real gun back at the perpetrator. the penalty for pointing a toy gun at a police officer is the same in the courts, and the same on the streets.

IF it makes it to court, the judge will chuckle at the fact that you had the nerve to point a TOY GUN at a cop with A REAL GUN, then he will drop the hammer on you for exactly the same sentence.

if it ends in the street. the cop will nail you just as dead for pointing a TOY gun at him as he will for pointing a REAL gun at him. don't ask him to stop doing his job and protecting his life just to maintain the life of the lump of stupidity that points a toy gun at a cop.

and before you whine about 'what if it's a kid', i will ask you what YOUR kid is doing pointing guns at cops? i find no problem holding such irresponsible parents VERY responsible for raising a kid to do that.

I agree in principle: all guns are real and all guns are always loaded.  That's the mantra that keeps us aware and, therefore, much safer.  My concern was more about the MISUSE of this law.  I'm sure that the author simply wants a way to add one more penalty to a captured criminal to keep him / her off the street that much longer.  What I don't think this bill is designed to do is penalize a fashion-conscious female shooter for having a lavender handgun with mother-of-pearl grips.

     simple test...

is it the job of government to tell a citizen what color gun they should have?

the quick and simple answer is NO.

i don't think this bill is DESIGNED to penalize a fashion-conscious female, but it will CERTAINLY BE USED THAT WAY.

SB 40 and SB 41 are government intrusion at its worst. No rational person can see the need for regulation of toy guns or guns that look like toys. If someone points anything that looks like a firearm at you, then you are entitled to respond as if your life were being threatened. I suggest that neither of these bill should even be allowed to get to committee.

i'm disgusted that either of these bills was even written.

the state legislature takes the entire state citizenry for morons.

it's time we voted the gun grabbers out.

Normally I'd agree.  Apparently, though, some criminals actually HAVE been painting the muzzles of their guns orange in an attempt to not get shot.  (Although you've GOT to wonder how well it works -- LOL!)  So I say that if criminals are gonna horse around like that, why not slap 'em hard for it?  My biggest concern is that this law will end up being used against women with pretty guns as opposed to real criminals, which makes me totally against it if / until the language is clarified and made VERY specific.

painting the muzzle of a gun is NOT going to stop me from shooting the guy pointing it at me.

this law is an attempt to CONTROL GUNS, as in TAKE THEM AWAY.

    let's not.
