Chief Executive Magazine, which calls itself "the only magazine written strictly for CEO's and their peers" conducts an annual survey of its readers regarding the "best" and "worst" states to do business. According to the MIRS Lansing newsletter, the most recent survey placed Michigan near the bottom at 43rd.
A "significant overhaul" of Michigan's political environment, taxes and regulation are the recommended remedies by those surveyed. However, according to MIRS' interview of the magazine's CEO, the same business leaders "don't view Michigan as having the leadership to do it."
