    School Employee Union Recommends Republicans

The Michigan Education Association is the largest public school employee union in the state. This election cycle, the candidates that it recommended won 93 of 103 contested races, including 71 of 79 that ran for the 110-member state House of Representatives.

A large majority of the labor union's recommendations traditionally go to Democrats. However, 11 of 43 Republicans who will be seated in the state House of Reps this January carried this MEA recommendation. Their names are:

Richard Ball, Kevin Green, David Hildenbrand, Rick Jones, James Marleau, Tim Moore, Tory Rocca, Gail Haines, Eileen Kowall, Paul Scott, and John Walsh.

How might this alter public education policy in the new Michigan legislature?

it will be interesting to see exactly where, on the sliding scale of conservative to liberal, these people stand.

shouldn't the fact that the unions democrat politician mill recommended republicans generate a huge backlash from the leftist loyalists who don't see a problem donating billions of dollars to democrats but see a HUGE problem donating a single cent to republicans?

    you bet it should.

    but it WON'T.

So much for the myth that teachers and their unions only support democrats.

The best way to improve public education policy in Michigan -- at the legislative level -- is to cease undermining the public schools system with repeated efforts to punish teachers, stiff local school districts on funding, and micromanage curricula.  Time will tell whether this will occur with the new makeup in the House of Representatives.

so, why have the unions supported ONLY candidates who did EXACTLY THAT?  why did they pump BILLIONS of teacher dollars into campaign funding STRICTLY FOR THOSE THAT DID THESE DIRTY DEEDS?

Boy, that's really got to get to ya, cajun.

Ever get the feeling that no matter how many hours you spend at the computer pounding out your tired conservative spin that no one is listening?

no, that doesn't have to get me. it DOES tell me that unions are slipping quickly away from being FULLY leftist, and nudging slightly right. it also tells me that at least ONE union cares about what it's DUES PAYING MEMBERS are thinking. it's a start.

and by the way... YOU are listening.

    trueblue is listening.

lots of other nice folks are listening.

and i notice that you have stopped posting to several threads on this site, could it be that you feel that you have LOST those discussions?

you and trueblue are also in a distinct minority here. it's just you two representing the entire left.

now, your research, while SCHOLARLY, was woefully incompete. you forgot to mention the various government websites, like the library of congress, the national archives, and the smithsonian. the facts are there. why are you afraid to look there?

i looked there, that's where i found that list to be fairly accurate.

if you look hard enough, you will even find ben franklin's paper covering the story. don't tell me you don't believe the MEDIA on that one...

oh, i forgot, you don't believe anything that doesn't spin to the left.

i'd say you'd better school your education union to teach the truth, if what you have found is indeed the truth.

otherwise, i'm not sure which lefty to believe... THE TEACHERS who's job it is to present facts and educate (or if what you say is true to INDOCTRINATE) or YOU.

the harder you press that YOU are right, the more we think that the TEACHERS indoctrinate, not educate. so press on.

Hmmmmm.   The MI Supreme court has moved to the left,  the White House, the MI legislature has moved to the left the US legislature (in BOTH houses) has moved to the left, more states have dem Governors.

AND.... Even "bailout" Bush and the repubs have moved to the left because of their own economic DISASTER they ushered in.  The entire world has moved to the left because of the collapse of  unfettered capitalism and the bankrupt "conservative" ideology.  And "crazy" cant see WHO is in the minority ?????

    LOLOLOL   Thats a hoot.!!

I whole heartedly welcome the inevitable and TOTAL discredit of the "conservative"  republicanism that has all but destroyed this great nation.

"Conservatism" is finally headed to its rightful place in history, ............the ash heap !

so, why did you vote for it?

it must have been better than the socialist alternative.

boy, talk about speaking out of both sides of your mouth...

we HEAR what you say, which is instantly cancelled out by KNOWING HOW YOU VOTED.

we know that your heart is TRULY pointed in the RIGHT direction, even if your mouth points left.

history will judge whether or not conservatism is dead. right now, it's simply in the minority. it's not dead any more than liberalism was dead when it was in the minority. by the way, with only ONE u.s. senator claiming to be socialist, i'd say that socialism is DEFINATELY in the minority.

recent successes of socialism in michigan.

  • Matt Erard for State Representative (53rd district) -- 2,200 votes, 4.6%
  • Dwain Reynolds for State Board of Education -- 94,663 votes, 2.2%
  • Jean Treacy for US Congress (1st district) -- 2,669 votes, 0.8%
  • Matt Erard, State Representative (53rd District), 2006 -- 847 votes (3rd of 3)
  • Jacob Woods, State Board of Education, 2006 -- 60,624 votes (10 of 11 -- top two elected
  • none of these guys won.

in fact, according to the socialist national committee, all of them came in LAST except one, who came in NEXT TO LAST. that's a pretty poor showing against such populist movements as the green party, the independents, and the communists.

so tell us again how the socialist groundswell, which you voted against, is going to rise up and cure all ills.

Re: School Employee Union Recommends Republicans

     SIGH !!   You are boring.

    But ok ,  no problem.......

I voted for McStupid as a protest vote because I didnt think Obama was the best choice, I thought he was a liar and a hypocrite and because he took his name off the ballot in MI but did NOT take it off in Florida, even though the same circumstances existed in BOTH states. Thus squelching democracy in MI and disrespecting the people of MI. (In the primary obviously)

The reason you know this is beause I TOLD YOU !

And now I have told you again.

The  difference......  Mine was a protest vote AGAINST Obama.

Not because he was black as YOU with your childish tantrums have assumed, but because he was UNQUALIFIED !

YOU on the other hand voted for McStupid because YOU REALLY believed in what the senile ignorant republican was saying.

    Stale, canned, ignorant republican drivel.

LOL  HA !    If it wasnt so pathetic, you'd actually be funny.

    Pfffft !

Yep I know that.  Its a shame.

But you know what???  My "guys"  are fighting against huge odds.

Its a monopoly of the two party system, something I thought you republicans were against.

Heres the bigger surprise for you............

    Devos......

    McCain.....

Republicans around the country........    none of these guys won.

And they ARE one of the two parties.   I think thats an even bigger loss, if you havent already noticed.

There is no win or lose in these discussions cajun. There are expressions of opinions. Because you have unlimited time to sit at your computer and rant on about your bankrupt ideology doesn't mean you win anything. Getting the last word in isn't winning. Because I don't answer your rants doesn't mean I lost the argument. It means I have more important things to do.

Getting your party and representatives in office is winning. At this time in our state and our nation, I am winning, and you are losing. That is an undeniable fact, even by your warped reasoning. This discussion forum is important to you. Winning elections is important to me.

     gee, j...

you've had your candidate in the mansion for almost eight years. when is SHE going to start 'winning' and doing as she promised?

    NEVER. the promises were empty.

she CAN'T AND WON'T save michigan. she doesn't feel it's worth saving. she MUST NOT, she applied for a cabinet position before she EVEN STARTED working her magic on the state. pity she didn't GET IT.

NOW she is stuck with the task of getting the state out of the mess she put is in.

by the way.. the president thinks that tax cuts are a good idea. why don't you?
