The only candidate I have seen or heard from that is making any sense this year is John McCain. I usually vote for the most qualified person, regardless of party, and usually lean Democratic. However, I am so disgusted with Jenny and Barak, and others like them, that I have had enough. They have done absolutely nothing to demonstrate to me they have what it takes to be leaders on anything. And I was so turned off by the primaries during the winter when they tried to move up (the Republicans did, too), only to find themselves penalized for failing to follow party rules. And guess what? Michigan's primary would have been much more relevant if they had stayed put.
I jumped ship in 2000 to vote for McCain, and am doing so again this year. I like his thoughts on health care that is both universal, but also flexible enough that people can have some choices in their care. He rightly states that only the patient and doctor should be the final decision makers. I like his idea of a combination of free-market / government sponsored programs. He is the only one who sees what I see, that a government-run universal health care system is doomed to failure.
As for the mortgage crisis and gas crisis, I think McCain is on the right track with his ideas on energy policy. Problem is that people like Jenny cannot see it this way. I do favor any effort to provide alternative sources of fuel, and we are slowly doing that. However, in the meantime, we need to do something to find relief from high mortgage rates and fuel costs. And we also need to find a way to bring jobs back to Michigan. We are killing ourselves by being the state that Dick DeVos said in his election ads that "leads the nation in moving vans".
