Well and good, as far as it goes.
The key thing to remember is that government workers’ pensions are an earned benefit – something those people work to earn as part of their overall compensation packages. That means the employer has a contractual (and conservatives would say, therefore, a moral-ethical) obligation to deliver the agreed upon benefit to employees. The employer should be expected and required to deliver those benefits.
I figure that’s the way the vast majority of private sector employees would prefer to be treated. Let’s remember The Golden Rule. At least in the public employment sector we have an opportunity to insist that workers be provided the compensation and benefits they have labored for and earned.
