Would ensure that "citizen initiatives" really are citizen initiatives, and not crackpot ideas being pushed by well funded outside interests. The idea is a sound one.

Drinking the kool-aid. This is only to keep these mental midgets firmly entrenched at the public teat. If you think that they are making it harder to get rid of them because of "crackpots" then I guess that I am a card carrying crackpot. You, on the other hand are a card carrying "usefull idiot". So they want to make it harder for citizens to petition their government. This guy should be run out on a rail. Three words...part time legislature.

This proposal does nothing more, and nothing less than to help ensure that Michigan "citizen initiatives" really are initiated and pursued by Michigan citizens, and not well-funded outside agitators and interests and their hirelings. That cannot be harmful to democracy in the state.

re-state as illegal what is already illegal in michigan. it also appears to TRY and correct some grammar in the legislation. it (tries to) restrict how and when and where and from whom signitures can be gotten. this CANNOT be a good thing, as each citizen is allowed to particpate in this initiative process. it places penalties for 'more signatures than there are electors' several times. this means that if you are not registered to vote, you don't count for initiatives. THAT is a bad precedent. it shows that those who DON'T participate in the 'politics as usual' are disregarded for citizenship. CHOOSING not to participate in the 'electorial process' shouldn't preclude someone from giving his or her opinion. yes, voting is a right and a privelege, and all are encouraged to vote, but those who CHOOSE not to participate are no less citizens than those who CHOOSE TO. this bill would make them so. THAT'S why i oppose it.

starts a petition to get government to finally do some GOOD WORK? every citizen who who looks at it has the opportunity to DECIDE whether or not to put his or her signature on it. don't you trust the citizens of michigan to make the RIGHT decision? or do you believe that they will follow blindly, doing exactly what they are told by their union reps?

It does matter who starts a petition labeled as a "citizens' initiative." If it is sponsored and pushed by non-citizen -- outside -- agitators, it really is not a citizens' initiative at all.

This bill is meant to further assure equal represntation through out the entire state, not just the areas of high density"cities" where the concentration of siqnatures live. Suppor this bill in and support theentire state of Michigan. Special interest groups will no longer be able to target a few large cities to gather enough signatures for an initiative.

Interesting idea Senator Jansen. How about we apply it to the Michigan Senate too? No legislation may be passed unless a majority of representatives from several regional demographic areas all approve of the same legislation at the same time? No? Doesn't make sense for voters either.

We all know what Senate Bill 1087 (Impose restrictions on citizen’s initiative signature gathering.) Don't we Senator Mark Jansen? It's about a student's endeavor with the help of Ward Connorly to do away with Affirmative Action. The voters successfully voted out Affirmative Action and your SB 1087 is meant to keep such a similar iniative from succeeding again. Anyone from out-of-state who wants to help the citizens defeat such an unconstitutional law should be able to help do so without interference from our legislators who have sworn an oath to protect our constitutional rights. Give me another Ward Connorly any day. Someone should send Sen. Mark Jansen packing!!!!!

If it's a good idea and I want to sign a petition then I really don't care if the person who came up with the good idea lives in Detroit, Toledo or Fort Lauderdale. Stop trying to take away our rights. you already have most of our money.
